I am a Site Collection admin and I created a Teams based upon an existing O365 Group, i.e. a public facing SharePoint site. Now I would like to delete the Team because of issues with membership a d public/private site issues. However, If I delete the Team will it delete my SharePoint site? is there a way to keep my SharePoint site and get rid of the Teams connection?

I sure wish that was made clear before I created a Team from an existing O365 group. Once connected it does not allow the reverse of the connection, right?

Cynthia,
Are you using retention policy to retrain SharePoint sites? If yes, then you can deleted Office 365 group but associated SharePoint site (under retention) will not be get deleted. While under retention, it can be used.
If you try a delete a modern site, without deleting associated Office 365 group, it will not allow you delete site. To delete a modern site (site associated with Office 365), you first need to delete group. Once associated Office 365 group is deleted, you can delete SharePoint site (only if site is not under retention).
Cheers,
H

Thanks, I need to find out about retention. I just researched that last week but do not know what our company policy is on that issue.

Is this actually still an issue? In our tenant it works as expected. But the teamsite isn't deleted right away. It took a night/day and then it was deleted.
