Nice. About time. Did you happen to notice if out of office and unified presence came along with it or just the contact groups?

Been waiting forever for this. I'd love to only use the Teams client, hope to see it in my tenant soon

My SfB contacts are now showing in Teams contacts... however only the internal users. External (federated) users are not showing up.
Federation isn’t part of this. That’s still on the roadmap.

I still dont see any updates in my Teams, and "Contact" tab is still not visible. What can I update to see it? Please advice, thank you so much

Nothing you can do. You just have to wait till it’s pushed to your tenant.

Sooo. Found out today, that if both tenants have the new "contacts" / presence updates you actually can chat cross organization. Did it today with my old Boss at his new company, we screen shared and had a call. Worked great. However couldn't do remote assistance thou, said something about policy so not sure if it's something that can be turned on or just isn't supported yet. You cannot add these contacts to your contact lists thou, but you can just go to new chat, and do the whole "Search for the contact externally" and if they have the newer setup you can communicate. 

In my case, the Contacts section is still blank in the desktop client...in the web client is funny to see I'm being informed the contacts are going to be imported while I already had this message in the desktop client
So you had a custom list or favorites group with internal people in Skype for Business and nothing moved over?

In my case, it still not has "Contact" function in both web and desktop version. May be I still wait for updating.

I see that we also now have our 'groups' of contacts from Skype, which is excellent.  But nothing is sorted.  Which makes it useless if you have more than ten people.  :)  And the groups aren't even in any order and you can't move them.

 

Will they be sorted in the groups and we be able to move the groups around?

Silly question.  Any future update that will provide Skype personal also?

 

Skype for Business was a wreck because even though you could add (barely, it failed a lot) skype personal users over, you could not have all the functionality such as 3 way calling.

 

I'd love to use one product for communicating to everyone, including other businesses.

It was on the Roadmap for Q3 but they recently canceled it on UserVoice and said they weren't going to do it, which is very unfortunate. My gut tells me thou that they have a plan to move Skype to Teams but that's just selfish wishful thinking on my end :P. For them to straight up cancel it vs. putting on the back log all the sudden makes me think something is up.

From Microsoft's purchase of Skype, maybe there is something in the agreements, patents, license that doesn't allow the tech to be integrated.

Any idea when federation will be available? As a MS partner that is federated with MS, being able to IM with my MS sellers is key.

Teams to Skype for Business Online / Teams federation should be 100% rolled out now I think someone said during the AMA.

I can see the contacts section in my Teams Client but i still have no contacts from Skype in Teams. A colleague has Skype Groups in his Client but also no contacts.

Are the contacts you had in your Skype for business internal contacts? They have to be Teams users and internal same org to be moved over. It also only moves manually favorited contacts not auto generated lists etc.

Is it possible to test external communications or enable it via PowerShell. When I try to chat to external SFB users I receive the following error: "We can't set up the conversation because your organisations are not set up to talk to each other.: This is even though we are able to chat with the contact between SFB clients.

In the new teams admin center probabaly need to make sure both endpoints have the external communication option turned on and not restricting by domain.

Do you know if one can allow all domains or if you have to explicitly allow each one?

Unfortunately that is how it was set, will log a call.
Both ends? What are both endpoints. Teams? What are coexistence settings?
The client would be SFB and we are not moving to teams. Currently I'm the only one in Teams only mode the rest are in Islands, so SFB to SFB comms are fine, but Im trying to test external communication from Teams to external clients on SFB.
Assuming the s4b user is online and not onprem homed? I know teams won’t talk to s4b hybrid like s4b online can.

I know it works teams to s4b online thou for sure had someone else test with me recently. But anyway pretty sure they have to have teams at least enabled on tenant and licensed for that user your trying to reach and the external settings as well to allow that pass through with the coexistence.
So the endpoint you are trying to message has their teams admin setting to external and blank as well?
They have SfB open to external domains, they haven’t moved on to teams yet but I do believe it is an online version of SfB.

Currently my users and their users communicate over SfB to each other. I would like to migrate to Teams and have the communications go between my Teams and their SfB.
They have to have That setting on their end enabled as well to basically allow Teams external users to message in. So verify their end is enabled as well. Don't recall if you confirmed that yet or not.

Ok I tested, the one client is SfB federated on prem and the other is online. The online one works fine its is the on prem client that is the issue.

So to confirm, its not possible for Teams online to communicate with SfB on prem?
The account must be homed in Skype for Business Online according to Microsoft. I don't know exactly what that means, but basically if it's on-prem only setup then it will not work.
But are we supposed to see them in contact list? Because I'm not seeing any of my federated contacts in Teams yet.

The federated contacts will not move over. You can only initiate new chats to federated users.

I don't see any contacts. None federated and none of our organization. Nothing is moved from S4B.

Got migrated from Skype Business to Teams. I can't find my skype contacts. When searching for them, it says "We are unable to set up the conversation because the contact you entered wasn't found." .. while i'm sure they exist and they succeed to call me. No Powershell can do that. Teams don't support external contacts yet and MS won't roll you back, so you can use SfB and Teams side-by-side. I'm the the same situation and can no longer communicate with any of my external contacts. What is MS thinking of when they do this kind of roll out and not even having all the functionallity ready? So sad - so sad for a company like MS.

Hi Lasse, I used to have side-by-side Teams and SfB, but MSFT force migrated me to Teams only. The result is:
I lost ALL my external contacts (were not migrated), which are basically only contacts I have.
I can search and find external contacts in Teams (upper search input), and even IM (session builds up somehow slowly) and call them, but adding to contact list fails, it adds the contact as "Unknown User".
Even after an IM session is built up, there is no status update going from Teams to SfB, I seem to be offline for and SfB user. Status update from and SfB user to my Teams seems to work with a bit of delay.
Cannot initiate desktop sharing with external SfB users, since Teams tells me "xyz is outside your organization. Some Teams features won't be available."

Exactly. That's also what I'm experiencing and I think / hope we're not the only ones because we can not put pressure on Microsoft alone. It's just not good enough of Microsoft the way they "destroy" a critical business application used for communicating with our customers, by taking such a bad decision to force Teams rollout / migration.

I got my tenant rolled back to SfB by MSFT support. Now I have all my contacts back. Hurrah!
Teams and SfB is in "Islands" coexistence mode, but strangely now I'm able to initiate IM/call from my Teams and SfB client to federated participants, which I don't mind. Also, my presence status is set only by Teams client: If I set my status in SfB client, it is very shortly reset to the current state in Teams. If I set my status in Teams, it is shortly reflected in SfB client too. My personal note ("Whats's happening today?") is also overridden by Teams client, where there is no personal note feature, so basically I'm not able to set my personal note anymore.

I'm not sure if I have the same issue but my tenant is "teams only" and a customer of mine is also "teams only"


We used to be able to chat in S4B.  Now that we are both using teams, we cannot chat.  Any time either of us send a message using desktop client, web, or mobile:  "We ran into a problem sending this message. Try again later."

 

Support said this is the way it is for the foreseeable future.  Can anyone validate?  It seems like a shortfall if this is the case especially given the move to teams.

Today it is possible to chat or do phone calls to external contacts via Teams. The only Problem is that the communication will Always end on the federated Company in Skype! Within this cross communication some features like sharing your desktop will not work. For this you need a Teams to Teams communication, like you have already with internal Users. And today the only workaround (which I know) is to invite your external contact to your Azure AD as a Guest-User. As soon the invited contact will follow the link and login with his own credentials to the invitatory O365-Tenant, this external contact will be treated like an internal user. In other words, we have a Teams-to-Teams communication, which is fully featured (sharing desktop included). Hopefully one day Microsoft will Teams allow to communicate with external users directly to Teams without hassling Guest-Status.

Federation goes to teams through a gateway but your right it only supports the basics.

V2 federation with Native Teams to Teams communication is coming soon. Which should provide us with much more if not most of the same chat features.

I can see contacts tab in chats but there SFB contacts in my contacts list. Unable to see a single contact in list.

The contact list updates for federation still are not in, but saving internal contacts to the lists should work by now I believe. But IMO the only ones worth saving in lists are the external contacts :p
