We have remote people who need to connect to Teams via video chat intermittently throughout the day and night. The local PC is not 'manned' so there isn't always someone here to either accept, or setup a video chat.

Our current process:

  • Someone at the local computer goes into our team's channel and initiates a video chat once.
  • As the remote workers come online, they see a link to the chat in our channel
  • Remote workers may join (and leave) this video chat many times throughout the day

Current problem is:

  • Now and then, the video chat just ends. This leads to the remote workers contacting the local workers to ask them to start another video chat again. This has happened multiple times throughout the day or night. The last time the call ended spontaneously, I noted the call ended at 3hours and 59mins. The time before that it was 46mins 30secs.

My questions are:

  • Is there a maximum time that video calls can go for?
    • If so, is there a way to extend this maximum?
    • If not, is there a way to automatically re-connect video calls once they've ended?
  • Is there a way that if remote people set up a video chat, that we can set the local PC to auto-accept?

I'd also be open to any other ways to make this happen via Microsoft Teams.

Thanks in advance.

My 2 cents here:
(1) AFAIK, there is not a maximum time for video calls...video calls can have any duration
(2) AFAIK, there is not a setting way to configure automatically users' reconnection to the video all
(3) AFAIK, auto-accept is something not present in Teams Today

Thank you Juan.

Anyone got any other suggestions to help our remote team workers be more self-sufficient when they want to 'come to work' via video call?

Hi Leila

Did you find any solution? We're in the same situation.

Great scenario... I'd probably do a 24 hour meeting instead of a chat.  It won't automatically terminate and people can come and go as they please as long as its open on the "receiving" side.  That doesn't solve the auto-join issue but if you set it up so that say at 8am someone at the receiving side joins the meeting and then someone closes it when your shifts are over you would be good.  This is a good scenario for a channel meeting instead of a private one.  That way membership is never an issue.  Let me know how this works out!
