Hi the community,

I created a Team that have 03 members, myself and two other ones that are External users added as guest members.

What I want to do is change there displayed name and picture. So how can I achieve that.

Sorry,
But this is something you can only do at the moment you add the users in Teams. Once you have added, there is no way to change the display name using Teams...have you taken a look at how this external users are displayed in Office 365 and Azure AD? I would suggest to try to change display name there or by PowerShell...of course, you can always remove completely the external users and again to Teams but this time configuring the display name properly
Solution

You can edit the display name of an external user in the Office 365 Admin Center. Here's an example. It does take a little time before the edits synchronize to Teams, but they eventually get there.

I confirm that it is possible to manager External Users informations using the O365 Admin center.
I found that using Azure AD we can get more détails.

I also changed the picture for the two external users, in Azure AD because there is no way to do that in O365 Admin center, but unfortunatly this is not being reflecting in MS Teams.

 

Any ideas on how I can get External Users picture in Teams ?

TR: The issue here is that Teams reads the user photo data from Exchange Online rather than AAD (I'm pretty sure about this), probably because mailboxes hold higher fidelity images (this is a good explanation http://paulryan.com.au/2016/user-photos-office-365/).  Guest users don't have mailboxes, so Teams has nowhere to go to fetch photos.

 

Synchronization between Teams and AAD is slower than the other workloads and it might be the case that Teams will eventually fetch user photos... but that depends on the photo data being in the set of synchronized attributes. So, maybe the photo will arrive - eventually. Or not, if I am right about the synchronization from EXODS (Exchange Online).

Two weeks ago and still do not have pictures :(

Every time when we want to cooperate with external resources, we run in trouble with the integration. This is horrible. We love Teams but this missing feature makes it a horrible experience. Slack handles it way better. :(

Unfortunately, we seem to be facing issues even when both organization tenants are subs of O365 business plan.

Very infuriating for small businesses who are looking for a single platform for all their collaboration requirements.

about how long are we talking about for this update to happen?  I have made the Display name change in the admin panel, Azure AD is reflecting it.  But I have yet to see the name update in teams.  It has been about a week.

The synchronization between AAD and Teams should be faster than that... Try making another change to the guest user object in AAD to see if that kicks off a synchronization cycle.

I have edited them again but there still has not been any update in the teams app.  Beginning to maybe think this may not work anymore, or something is bugging out on my end

 

I think I would file a support issue. If only to get a fresh pair of eyes on the problem. Debugging via an online forum is seldom a productive activity if the problem isn't immediately obvious.

I figured it out.  You need to actually log off and back into the app.  Exiting the app and reopening the app the doesn't do it.

 

This is true on mobile as well.

The easy solution sometimes stares us in the face.

 

What you're doing is forcing Teams to refresh its cache by logging off and back in again. Refreshing the cache brings down the changes from Azure AD.
