Microsoft

I created a Team site and invited an external member to the project. The external member was granted a guest account during creation. When the external member tried to access the Team site, he got a message saying "You don't have access to this org…". I tried to simulate it somewhat by inviting myself via my personal email and computer at home ---and was able to successfully access the Team site...so external access works, but for some reason switching orgs doesn't.

I've been trying to search for a way to resolve or approach this issue but have not made any good progress. The external member also works with two other companies who have also invited him to their Microsoft Teams sites and he's able to switch to their orgs/sites with no problem.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help....

Delete the user / guest account from your tenant and try sending another invite. They shouldn't need to accept the invitation via e-mail, I've seen so many times people do this and end up tying the invite to a different Microsoft account that is cached in the browser etc.

What they need to do, is once you invite, just sign out of Teams, and sign back in, and it should then show up automatically in their tenant listing to choose from, then it will go through the whole accept the invitation process. Otherwise, make sure if they do use the invite, make sure that they use in-private browser / guest profile so that they do not have an account logged in to accept the invite into.
100% agree with Chris as the solution. I have also been through this on several occasions.

Best, Chris
Yup! Happened to a user I helped today! Accepted with a hotmail account instead of their corporate address :)
Remove and reinvite just as @Chris Webb suggested!

Hi guys - Thank you so much for you responses! It worked. But now I have another external member who had the same issue and it didn't work for him. The difference I'm seeing is that he has two different email variants (fname@comp.com and first.name@comp.com) and turns out he uses fname@comp.com for his Teams login (but I invited him with first.name@comp.com). When I tried to remove and add him back, Teams keeps resolving it back to first.name@comp.com. Does Teams have a cache of sorts(?) that maybe I can clear? Thanks again!

Yes, it pulls from the attached Azure AD. you have to or have an admin, delete the guest account from azure active directory to fully remove it.
I know that even if you delete the account from AAD, teams can resolve the old account when you start typing! Just ignore this and continue type the whole address
( fname@comp.com) and add it!

Thanks, Chris! The helpdesk folks helped remove his guest account from Azure AD. After that I was able to add him with the correct email address and now he is able to access successfully!
