We are evaluating TEAMS and find that is currently meets most of our requirements except --- We need to have 3 types of Team Sites and need to group the sites by Team Type. We have Project Teams, Asset Teams and Vehicle Teams. We would like to have a base standard for each of the types since they all function differently. Is there a way to do this within the Teams Product? Customize this?
Using Channels and creating 3 teams will not provide the full functions that we need - we do not think. Ideas?

Steve -- good news but how can we group the Team Sites on the Main page by type? Control the order of the Teams List?

The list of Teams and Channels in the left column is up to the user, the idea is that they choose which Teams and Channels they favourite and which they hide. They can also drag things up and down the order. So no you can't control it, it would break quite an important bit of functionality.
What are you wanting to achieve with this grouping?

Steve, We want to have Project Teams and resources we book as teams also. The resources are divided into two types: roads that are booked for testing to occur on and vehicles that are used to conduct the tests. So we have about 200 active projects (with schedules in PWA), 150 Vehicles of various types (with schedules currently off line), and 6 different roads in our facility that are booked with off line schedules. I want to have all of these as teams with an icon or color to distinguish the team type. Each of the 3 types will have different channels, bots, etc. but all will have a single calendar / library per Team Site.

yes. That worked. I was looking in options for a setting that let me control the order. Drag and drop works. Thank you.

It sounds like you've got a fairly clear idea of what you need, but just in-case you didn't consider it you could create your vehicles as resources in exchange, and your roads as rooms. Then a project could create a meeting booking that invites vehicles and roads, and checks their availability for you. Doesn't give you the opportunity to chat or have channels against each vehicle/road though.
I think to create what you are asking for I would be looking to build a SharePoint list as a kind of directory, with columns for name, category (project/vehicle/road) and a hyperlink to the actual page. If you keep that somewhere central (maybe on a hubsite) then add it as a tab to all of your teams (via the template teams).
Then the left column will be the users list of the teams they have joined and favourited, and each team would have a tab to provide a directory of the rest.
It would be quite a nice little project to build, using lots of the newest features. Embedding a list in a website tab is brand new, you would use the new column formatting in sharepoint to create your icons, and perhaps a communications site as a hubsite to host your directory list.

We do need Chat (with History) and Channels against each vehicle and asset (road). Booking and maintaining the vehicles and assets is more complicated than one would think and very fluid. Some projects require the road at certain sun times. Some under certain temperature conditions so the schedule is fluid based on many factors. I am going to try your suggestion in SharePoint and try making all of the projects, vehicles and assets as teams. Thank you for the information. This saved me hours of research.
