This is in the GENERAL channel of one of our teams. There is an Excel file there that we have been using for a few weeks with no problems. Starting today, when I click on it in the Teams UI, I get a "Sorry, we couldn't find your file." error.

I tried in the web interface and got the same error.

I went to the Sharepoint site though and the file is there. We continued to use it today in a meeting that way, but from within Teams (desktop and web) it says it isn't there.

I renamed the file in Sharepoint to see if that would do anything Teams does see the renaming, but clicking on it give the same error.

I tried a different PC and same issue. I logged off and on, same issue.

Any ideas? Teams says I have the desktop software, and I assume anytime I go to the web and refresh, that is the latest code for that.

EDIT: Teams for iOS does not report this error. It shows me the file just fine.

Does no one have any ideas on this? Or anything I can provide to MS to help troubleshoot? Seems like a bug since the web and Windows client give an error but the iOS client does not, and the file is there and fully available on Sharepoint and sync'd libraries.

I just noticed my TEAMS software updated on Dec 8, but still didn't fix this issue. Anyone? Where do we report bugs?

@Dave Heller - is this something MS is investigating or interested in fixing? It is still happening. Windows and web clients report file not there, iOS sees it just fine, and it definitely exists on the Sharepoint site Teams created.

I hate to delete and re-add the file as conversation history will be lost or detached.

We have a similar issue with Teams, except the files link fine for the author but not anyone else. The files are actually not visible to others in SharePoint. One workaround is to put dummy values in the "Report Config" and "Revision Comment" fields, then either doing a check in or discarding a check out in SharePoint. But today I saw an issue with a broken link in Teams where I was able to find the file and access it in SharePoint. But the above workaround didn't help. Very frustrating.

I'm having the exact same issue.

I'm facing the same issue too. Anyone found the solution?

I'm having the same issue. This is what I did:

I migrated some files (words & excel) with lots of subfolders from my File-Share using Share-Gate into the SP DocLib from my Team. All the contents were migrated without any errors. So good so far! However, I cannot see them either in the Web (teams.microsoft.com) nor on my Teams Client (latest version). All I see is couldn't find your file. If I open those files in Word online or Word client (2016) it works. If I access the folder in SP, it works just fine.

The funny thing is, the preview with the excel files folder can be seen but all the other folders with word files aren't displayed!

I didn't have any cant-find-file-problems by dragging & dropping the word files manually into the Teams' Client. I'm just too lazy to manually create the folders in the DocLib. I am working with folders because metadata isn't supported yet...

My corporate tenant (Office 365 E3/E5 - EA) is experiencing this issue between Teams and SharePiont Online. We are also unable to open SharePoint Online files in external applications such as desktop apps - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote.

At this time we are struggling with the ineffective tier 1 Microsoft Online Support to try to get to tier 2 and hopefully someone who can actually help.

This does not seem to be directly related to a product update as we see the issue in Teams app or online as well as Word, Excel, PowerPoint both 2013 and 2016 both 32-bit and 64-bit. We see it in network and outside of the domain. It seems to be something withint the SharePoint Online service iteself.

Are there any required fields one these documents that haven't been filled in for any reason? This would cause documents to not be checked in and therefore not visible to anybody else than the account that did the orignal upload (which might not be the user that you think it is)

Pieter that is not the issue. Users can go to SharePoint Online to the document library, see and work with the documents in Microsoft Office online products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote). What they cannot do is open them in the Desktop Applications.

With regards to Microsoft Teams the "Files" section just reports, "We are setting up your file directory. Try refreshing the page after a few minutes or check back later.", or one of the other variations of that "Couldn't Find Your File".

I am going to hunt around SharePoint Online to see if someone else can point to a workable solution.

Also this is not one Team or one document.

Thank you for the inquiry. It is always good to go back to the bottom and be sure nothing was missed.

@Deleted, Do these missing documents appear in SharePoint Search?

@Pieter Veenstra Yes. The documents are visible via SharePoint Onlien Search. The documents are not missing. Microsoft Teams (online or app) and Office apps cannot maintain a session with SharePoint Online in order to retrieve the documents.

@Pieter Veenstra and others to close out our issue. We tracked the problem down to a new Microsoft Configuration change rolled out into our tenanet.

The errors for us began in all applications, not just Teams, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 2:38 PM EDT.

Tracing showed login.windows.net was reporting "The user or administrator has not consented to use the application with ID..." with every application reporting the same id.

We found an article from Feb 28 announcing device access control being released into the Office 365 tenant with Block as the default for SharePoint Online. https://reoffice365.com/new-device-access-section-in-the-sharepoint-online-administration-b827d08802...

We change the settings to Allow and while it took about 45 minutes to propagate through the system, all of our OAuth issues disipated.

We are now following up with Microsoft to find out why the Block stopped EVERYTHING!

I am having the same problem.

i cannot install the downloaded application , whenever its shows that windows couldn't find the file.

can anyone please help me.

I finally figured out why this was happening for me.  This is an MS Teams bug (I think) but I don't know where to report it.

If you rename a OneNote notebook from the MS Teams Windows Application, it adds a visible extension ".one" to your filename as viewed in the "Files" tab of your channel.  It also adds that to the filenename in SharePoint.  This will prevent you from being able to open the file in MS Teams and will prevent you from being able to open it from the OneNote Windows Application.  MS Teams will not let you remove the ".one" from the name.  The only way you can open it is in SharePoint.

I resolved the problem by renaming the file in SharePoint where you are allowed to remove the extra file extension.  Now it works in all the applications again.
