Is it possible to set a default sorting for the files tab in Teams?
Currently its set to Last Edited.
And it shows the folders first that have been last edited.
But i want it to show it from Name column A to Z.
Thnx for the reply.

I could not agree more. Drives me a little nuts not being able to set a new default for ordering my files. I'm so used to alphabetical and I want it to stay that way or at least give me the option to set it up the way I want.
Looking forward to an answer of how to do it or if Microsoft will possibly look at adding this feature.

How frustrating that my folders from sharepoint cannot be viewed by default in order of their 'Name' rather than by 'Modified' please rectify ASAP.

I agree this is very frustrating, and seemingly such a basic and simple thing from an end-user perspective. And it looks as if it's been more than a year and still no response from Microsoft?

Agree. BASIC functionality. Amazing that it isn't getting any attention. Column sorting is a function of every other MS product

We have another issue where the current Teams File interface cannot display all the folders in a VERY large hierarchy. If they implement the functionality you are talking about, then I would imagine that would solve that problem too.
They actually called me Friday about the large folder structure and said that they added it as a BUG as they can easily recreate the issue, and that they were working on a fix for that.
But I believe your solution would also fix it.

Fully agree. Files and folders must sort alphabetically and/or numerically. 'Last modified' may be helpful in tracking a conversation, but it is an inappropriate default for displaying a file storage framework. I sincerely hope MS developers can address this basic request.

I agree - rolling out Teams to new users and not being able to provide alpha sort as a default it unfortunate.

Boost your productivity with a tighter integration between Teams and SharePoint: You’ll soon be able to enjoy the full capabilities of SharePoint libraries in your files tab with features like creating a custom view and pin-ing a document to the top. Additionally, you will have the ability to add SharePoint lists and SharePoint Framework web parts as tabs in your team’s channel Link to SharePoint blog post
I saw the roadmap fot this and I believe it was to be rolled out in early next year

Completely agree with @Peter van der Zande. I am really struggling to get user adoption when simple things like this are not possible. Especially as this is easily doable in SharePoint, it really should be basic functionality in Teams. I would love to see this put this on the next round of updates.

It's April. I got in sorted all the files and folders in SharePoint. It looks fabulous. I saved it, and Teams is sorted by date again. No effect.
@adam deltinger still a problem for you too? Would love to be able to combine folders too.

Given the # of replies, at this rate, just piling on - Microsoft has spent (30+?) years sorting alphabetically - you can't just expect user adoption without an ability to change the default back to sorting alphabetically!
And my personal experience - it's just inefficient. The user has to hunt for a particular folder because the approximate location can wildly swing. Or you have to always double click on sorting by name.

For you guys having problems with adoption because of this "issue", there is a good chance to boost the adoption by introducing the search bar to the users. This can have a pretty good effect on finding files. Please do not get me wrong it is not an excuse, just a way you can work around problems like that in many cases! Searching is possible for files and even text in files which have been indexed by Teams.

Regarding sorting the folders in the 'files' tab on teams: Click on the title of the heading (such as 'file', 'name', 'modified' or 'modified by'); you will see a down arrow. Click on the arrow under 'name' and it will sort it alphabetically.
Seems simple, I know but it is not easily visible.

Users shouldn't have to do that every time that they access files inside teams. Let's hope MS fixes this quickly.
Cannot agree more that not being able to change the default view is ridiculous. Now users have to click the desired sorting column EVERY TIME they open the document view. NOBODY I know looks at the modified date, they all use name sorting, so I'm not sure who at Microsoft figured this might be the default setting, but it's definitely not helping from a productivity perspective.
What I don't understand, is that the view doesn't use the "Default View" settings from the underlying Sharepoint folder, since it's basically just a representation of a document library. So the implemenation I would choose in Teams, is to be able to apply the views that are defined in Sharepoint. That way there's one location you can edit/manage the views.
