Disable teams (group) chat - Is this possible

We are in the process of rolling out teams within our School and have managed to disable private chat.  However due to our Teams auto creating and joining members to their classes from our MIS API - we are looking for a way to disable group/class chat by default for all users - We cannot do this manually as there must be more than 300 teams on there and it would be impossible to moderate or manually change them settings.

Any help would be great, as this is a bit of a deal breaker for us.

If you aren't allowing chat anywhere in the system, then why use Teams in the first place? Guess I'm a bit confused by the request as it's a bit unorthodox.

Good question Chris.

They have asked me to trial Teams and Google Classroom. They would like teams to be used like Classroom for the classroom so I assume just setting assignments and marking etc.

Google classroom you can turn off all chat so I’m surprised teams is setup like this.

You can turn off chat, but you can't turn off Team conversations.

I am in school as well. I am trying to stop the students from creating their own teams where they are using at as a social forum.@Joko__
