Greetings from Germany,
as always we in europe and maybe especially in Germany are a little special regarding privacy concerns. A customer is asking if it is possible to disable the online presence indicator in the Microsoft Teams service. We all know this is a pretty cool feature but we are german... and things work different here. The customer is currently using Cisco Jabber and Cisco allows the configuration to have chat, but without the availabilty/presence status displayed. Does it make sense? No. Does this meet their compliance policy? Yes.
I know there is a config possible to disable 1:1 chat, but this is not the use case. Policy is forbidding the status indication (Available, Busy, Away, Offline). So the question what is possible? I found no documentation (check Admin FAQ, googled with Bing, googled with Google, ...) about this topic.
Any hidden PowerShell features? Any plans? The uservoice page is also not indicating any features in this direction and noone askt this specific question.

Now that all the features of skype will be integrated into the MS Teams client and service. Is there an update regarding this privacy mode?

Thats right. You can not disable it, but in SKype you have the ability to enable privacy mode. That would be better than nothing :)

Hello from Switzerland @Marco Scheel
My 'Teams' Status shows 'unknown' and I can't change it to 'present' or any other status. So, technically it is possible, but I don't know why... Our engineers are trying to fix it for me, but without success so far.
We have already removed and reassigned the license, as well as reinstalled Teams.
The other thing is that I know exactly what you are talking about (company policies, does it make sense etc.) as we had the same discussion a couple of years ago. In this (your) case I believe a discussion and a change is unavoidable. You can't go 'digital, collaborative and future-orientated' with policies from the 80's or 90's... ;)
If you want to chat with me about this topic, please drop me a line.

Our C-level employees want to be on Teams but do not want their status to show as it is a security issue for them. Is there a way in Powershell to always show them as busy?

on our side, the problem has been solved with the latest update. Means, my presence is visible as we want to have it.

You can disable the presence indicator in Skype for business with a custom presence file. Not sure if that is possible in Teams.
