Deleting profiles in SDS

I have just closed my old SDS profile from last year and marked the classes as expired. I now have the option of starting a new academic year or deleting the profile.

 

What are the consequences of deleting the profile? With the old teams now expired (I decided not to archive at this stage) will deleting the profile do anything? I am afraid it will then go and delete the teams attached to that profile, but I don't think that is the case.

 

If I now create a new profile (we plan to do so via our MIS provider using oneroster that states we must delete all old profiles) will my old teams remain on the system untouched? Again I hope that changing the status to expired will help differentiate the old teams but not have them deleted when a new roster gets uploaded.

First up, there is a dedicated space for School Data Sync as well as one for Microsoft Teams for Education for these types of questions.

That said, let me try to answer your question. In our district we marked the teams as expired and added a prefix (Exp0818_) so that it's easy to distinguish them from active teams (some systems might also reuse IDs, which could cause a mess unless renaming). We then archived all the teams, which make them read only and move them into the archived section within Manage teams. Students and teachers will still be able to access them, and could even mark them as favourites for quick access if needed, but no changes can be made.

Deleting an expired sync profile should not result in deletion of teams, users or memberships since it's obviously no longer syncing.
