Creating a new Microsoft Team, what happens in Yammer?

Hi There,

When I create a new team in Microsoft Teams, it creates a Office 365 Group, does it create a Yammer Group as well? My understanding was all of this was supposed connected.

Thanks!

You have to verify that your tenant / Yammer configuration meets all the requirements to have Yammer connected groups as described here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Yammer-and-Office-365-Groups-d8c239dc-a48b-47ab-b85e-6b4b81...

No, Yammer and Team groups are two different types of groups.

Outlook groups are what Teams connects too, Yammer groups are groups that don't have a outlook component to them.

This does a good job of kind of explaining that and how the groups are connected.

It will be in the future, but that level of integration does not currently exist.

Ok, but in this Microsoft Article it clearly says it is, as long as your Tenant and Security are configured properly.

Yeah Yammer can have it's own groups connected to it, but you cannot have a Microsoft Teams connected group that is connected to Yammer at the same time, they are different, per the article I posted, they are not the same type of groups. One is Outlook connected (The one Teams can tie to) and the other that Yammer uses does not have an Outlook Mailbox tied to it., therefore, Teams cannot connect to that group.

Re: Creating a new Microsoft Team, what happens in Yammer?

When you create a Group in Outlook, create a Planner, a new MS Team, or a new Modern Team Site in SharePoint, it creates an Office 365 Group that includes the following:

SharePoint Site and Doc Library

Planner

OneNote

Outlook Distribution List

Outlook Calendar

When you create a Group in Yammer, it creates an Office 365 Group that includes the following:

SharePoint Site and Doc Library

Planner

OneNote

Yammer group discussions

So, when you create a Group via Teams, nothing happens in Yammer (and there is not currently a way for an O365 Group to have both Outlook Discussions as well as Yammer discussions).
