I've been having an issue downloading or opening my documents, excel sheets, and presentations on MS Teams since last week.
Every time I try to download a file, I can a useless warning message saying "Sorry we ran into a problem" with no further clarification as to what the "problem" is. In addition to downloading, I can't open files in my desktop clients (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). When I click on "Edit in Word", nothing happens.
I've tried everything, from restarting, signing out, trying the Teams web client. None of those made a difference. I can download files using my mobile and can open them using the online applications, so I know it is not a permission issue.
I'm running Windows 10 (Version 1709 OS Build 16299.547) with Office 365 ProPlus.
Sounds almost like a bug in the office client that hit awhile back, there was a registry fix for it. If you want, I have the registry fix file for it, if you want to give that a whirl you can. Here is the file, download and run this with admin rights and see if that helps.
Some of my users are seeing the same behavior! If they open in SharePoint online it works fine but not in Teams. I got Hmm. sorry there this file doesn't have a preview available, then they hit download, and get something went wrong.
I had one user who I noticed had Chrome as the default browser, made her change it back to edge and that fixed a different issue she had as the Desktop app for teams doesn't work well with anything other than Edge set as the default on win 10. It did not fix this issue though :(
