Can't access my Free Teams

I have signed up for free Teams when it was announced in early August. Played a bit with it, tested interoperability with my corporate Teams account. And haven't touched it for a few months. Today i can't access it. If i try to go to it in a browser it just stalls it and throws a warning a page is taking too long. In mobile and desktop app i can only join my corporate Teams where i have invited my user as a guest. It doesn't show a selection with my personal free Teams as it used to. Maybe free Teams are removed after some idle time or something? :)

 

Actually i'm having troubles with connecting to corporate Teams via any browser on different PCs often now. Desktop client seems to operate. Was using browser version of corporate Teams fairly often, don't remember such problems.

 

When i go to Free Teams sign up page it allows me to put the same email address, i enter my password and then press Join/Connect button and then the browser hangs the same way.

On a somewhat related note, i had to switch to using Chrome with my Office 365 admin center as it became unusable lately after latest Firefox update (search not working, users list returning empty list, etc.).

Mines been idle awhile and can still access it.

When i try to go to Teams now it shows me an error that i have to sign in again.

when you go to portal.office.com with incognito tab, and type your login in, do you get prompted to use work account or personal account? If you do, then you somehow have an account in o365 somewhere tied to that same e-mail and you need to go into like outlook.com and go edit your profile and your login to something else so it doesn't get confused, teams is natorious for trying to use your work account even if you pick personal one.

My personal email address doesn't have Office 365 subscription tied to it. So i can't go to portal.office.com. It is also only used for personal MS address, i never get a dialog to choose whether it is work or personal account. In a fresh Chrome profile it hangs when opening Teams, although in tab name i see for a second "Error happened", then it reloads and then Chrome says it takes too long. I guess i somehow need to contact MS support on this.

Have you tried accessing it in a non incognito window? Teams doesn't usually work too often when using it.

I haven't actually tried in incognito, as i have tried with a fresh browser profile. 

Did you find any solution? I'm having the same problem.

Some others with problems with Teams Free version, had it fixed on Microsofts side! I don't know the best way for fastest support on the free Teams service but start by calling Microsoft support and go from there!

I have tried to call our local number (Lithuania), but it just goes on the loop (do you agree with a call being recorded, then suggest Russian language, then goes back to asking if it is ok to record a call). I might try again tomorrow, but as far as i know in our country you can only reach a robot to activate products and there are no real support anymore.

So, i have tried https://support.microsoft.com/lt-lt/contactus/ today, but it doesn't accept my phone number when trying to setup a call with an agent.

Tried calling Lithuanian support number from https://support.office.com/en-us/article/contact-support-for-business-products-admin-help-32a17ca7-6... (the one which redirected to help in Russian). I have selected English and was connected with Office 365 support, which said they only support Office 365 (i don't have Office 365 subscription, because Free Teams is not really an Office 365 subscription, you can register it with a simple mail address). So they have forwarded my call to regular desktop Office applications support line. Where i had to spell it letter by letter and they heard about Teams for the first time i guess. They have tried to provide me a link for https://support.office.com/en-gb/teams , but its contact us link works the same as the above and is not accepting my number. They have also provided a phone number to call Teams support directly, but i can't reach it either..

 

It's getting ridiculous trying to go through the hoops to get support. I guess i will treat free Teams as a PR stunt and won't use or recommend it to anyone anymore. If it breaks, you are on your own. I wonder it free Slack is better option, although it has no official support either, but maybe you can at least contact someone who understands what you are talking about.

It might be that i need to enable roaming for my number to be able to call them. But i don't want to spend so much on calls, especially when it can be in vain.

I was able to connect to my free teams's SPO site with URL https://org-name.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx and it shows that i'm Oleg K and my username as admin@org-name.onmicrosoft.com

 

Maybe i can only join my free team with a unique URL it provided after the registration, which i don't have anymore (with tenants GUID) and which would be stupid, if that was the reason. It should just work with my login name and find our where to login..

Solution

I've got through finally. Had to save my GUID while trying to browse in SPO site (it was shown in the URL), then add it to teams URL like that https://teams.microsoft.com/_?tenantId=GUID and it loaded my teams. That's a crappy behavior. I don't have to remember or save some GUID codes to be able to login to my account..
