Hi All,

Is it possible to add a Planner tab to a Team where the planner already exists but does not exist within the Team the planner tab is being created?

When I attempt to add a Planner tab the only options I have are to either create a new planner or to add an existing planner, however when I select the drop down on existing planners only the plans that exist within the current Team are shown.  I would like to be able to add any of the plans that I have access to, regardless of whether they exist within the current team, to the channel, is that possible?

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

Leigh.

I guess you already started to use the Teams so then it is not possible. You can add a existing planner to Teams if you use the existing Office 365 group when creating the Team.

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Planner-Blog/Bringing-a-Plan-into-Microsoft-Teams/ba-p/57463

When you created the planner first there was a Office 365 Group created in the background, when you add a member to the planner that user is added to the Group. When you created the Team in Teams it also created a Group (maybe you named them the same) but this is a different Group with different Members. When you add a Planner in Teams it  will use the Group created with Teams.

So you can't add the already existing Planner to a new Teams that have different groups. You could add a tab in Teams with a web url to your existing Planner, but I don't recommend that.

So you have recreate the Plan in Teams.

There are some uservoice requests that could fix this

https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/31560265-po...

https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/19623457-ad...

Thanks Linus, makes sense but these options including the uservoice feature requests really don’t give me what I need.

One workaround that I tried was to create a new website tab in the team and then paste the planner URL into the website tab settings. This sort of worked however when loading the tab it loads the full planner site including left hand menu and the navigation of the site within the teams tab is a little clunky. BUT, this is effectively all I need, except in the teams planner screen rendering instead (if that makes sense).

I don’t care about Office 365 groups I just need to be able to load the planner in the team even though the planner wasn’t created within the team.

Hi,

You could also start your own suggestion in Uservoice for planner or Teams.

It is hard not to care about the groups since it is the foundation of both Teams and Planner, to be able to use a Planner in a Team both Teams and Planner have to use the same group, in your case you have two different groups.

So you have to do as you did with a web tab that loads your planner, or create a new Team and use the same group as your plan (see URL above), or create a new Planner in your Team and move all tasks to that.
