Could you be more specific about when Teams will support Apps and Bots in the Government Community Cloud?

Hey Brian,

Right now we're bringing in Microsoft created Tabs as we confirm their compliance, so you'll see more trickle in over time.

Any of the 3rd party Apps or Bots get more difficult as we don't control their compliance and these exist outside of our compliance boundary. Can you tell me more about which Apps/Bots you're interested in, and how important their compliance story is to your decision on whether to allow them or not? We're gathering feedback to see if we need to adjust our approach here, so I'd love to capture your thoughts.

Thank you for the reply!

We are most interested in the Microsoft created ones such as VSTS and Power BI. Since Teams just rolled out for GCC, being able to give users an anticipated release would help with adoption of the tool.

PowerBI is in the pipeline already. Hopefully not too long to wait :)

I'll check on VSTS.

Hi David,

I know the AMA is over, but I am hoping that you are still able to answer some more questions. Specifically, what is the best way to get an indication as to when we can expect specific tabs to be available? Great to hear about Power BI, but what about some of the more "simple" ones like "SharePoint Page" or a link to another web page, etc.?

-Steve

SharePoint Page is also already in the pipeline with PowerBI.

The Website tab gets trickier. This seems simple, but it gets more complex in these higher compliance worlds as this allows the display of a website without employing any browser based control which tends to make tenant admins very upset if they rely on those in their environment. We're looking at ways to deal with this, stay tuned.

For the prior VSTS question, my understanding is that VSTS is not yet available in GCC. As a heavy VSTS user myself, I would point you to their UserVoice page to cast your vote! https://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/330519-visual-studio-team-services/suggestions/12571488-ad...

Sorry to chime in late. It is great to hear that sharepoint is in pipeline too. I am assuming that Planner will be available soon. Do you have it outlined on your roadmap in details so we can check what is coming into the pipeline for government users?

Hi David,

Great info.. thanks! I guess back to my original question: how do we know what is in the current pipeline and when we can expect these new apps? You mentioned Power BI and SharePoint Pages.. is there anything else included? Do you have a rough timeframe for release (with the understanding that there are a ton of moving parts in the compliance space that could shift this date)?

EDIT: Also - are there compliance implications to the inclusion of the app launcher in the GCC version of Teams? Can we expect to see that soon as well? Teams seems so de-coupled from the rest of the O365 experience without it.

Thanks!

-Steve

Planner for GCC is on the public roadmap: https://products.office.com/en-us/business/office-365-roadmap?filters=&freeformsearch=planner&featur...

We'll bring it to Teams in GCC as a Tab shortly after they release!

Sadly we have to shy away from dates when compliance is concerned, especially in the government space. Predicting those timelines is very difficult and we don't want to set false expectations with everyone. We work to add things as soon as we're allowed I promise!

If by App Launcher you mean the App Store, we removed that for now since it is largely 3rd party Apps, but we're very interested in bringing it online in the future in some sort of controlled way. I'm especially excited about the Tenant Apps Catalog and the power it unlocks for organizations who wish to create their own Apps.

Would love to get your feedback on specific things that are missing now, whether that is individual Apps or functionality, to help us better target areas to work on.

Hi David,

I understand re: dates. A bit frustrating, but I understand.

When I was referring to the app launcher, I meant the waffle icon that we normally see in the top, left-hand corner of all Office 365 apps. It's been a recent addition to commercial tenants, but I noticed it is omitted in the GCC version. Getting to OneDrive or SharePoint Home requires me to manually type in a URL.

-Steve

Oh, the waffle! Let me check on that.

Thanks for the previous responses, we've already seen SharePoint and Power BI added!

As a follow up question, the Power BI tab only allows content from the commercial tenant, is there something on our admin side that needs to be changed for it to point to the government Power BI tenant, or is it just not available yet?

Thanks

@Brian Knox Checking on Power BI. Not sure why you're getting that experience. Do you all also use Power BI not in GCC?

@Stephen Brown Give the Waffle another check :)

@David Rosenthal, We transitioned from commercial to GCC, so the other one exists but is no longer in use. Is this something that can/needs to be shut down on the admin side?

Thanks for all your responses.

Other Bots that would be great are bots that we can define.  For instance, I would like to be able to mine sharepoint data, data from our website and social media platforms to try and answer questions from my community.  perhaps even try and find solutions to problems on our helpdesk and create a ticket if the information is not found (we use Samanage).  Customizable bots that are more than a one trick pony.

@David Rosenthal, any suggestions on what we can try on our end for the Power BI tab?

Not yet. We're looking at this behind the scenes.

David,

We are very interested in the roadmap for connectors (Webhooks) and the ability to deploy custom apps within the GCC? Will the GCC currently allow custom apps? Also, are webhooks in the pipeline?

Thanks for the help and your time.
David, what is the availability story for the Tenant Apps Catalog. Is that being evaluated separately from third party external apps?

We're looking at all of these things as part of the all up Apps story in GCC. Message received loud and clear that everyone wants these things, but please bear with us as we work through compliance to see what can be done here!

@David Rosenthal any news on Power BI in Teams. We still cannot access our Power BI in GCC when trying to add a tab in Teams. Do you have any suggestions for us. Thank you

@David Rosenthal Any progress or workaround on Power BI in MS teams for government users. To add Power BI tab in Teams points to commercial tenant rather than government for government users.

Thank you

Any update on when OneNote App for Teams will get approval for GCC?

understood that MS is waiting on others to provide the compliance.  And we also appreciate that you understand our interests (and frustrations).  Is there any talk of MS trying to streamline these compliance issues more in general?  I'm sure that your company has reached out to see if the Feds could utilize any of this technology to enable the process.

For those in this thread asking about Power BI, give it a shot :)

@David Rosenthal  I just came across this thread and thought I would try to jump start the conversation to see if there has been any movement on the release of bots, connectors or apps integration for Teams in GCC. For me, to start, some of the Microsoft centric ones such as Planner, Forms, Flow, and OneNote would be of most importance.

Our federal organization has just begun to pilot Teams in GCC and this seems to be a question that comes up more often than not so I wanted to see if there was any new information out there you could share about this topic. Thanks!!

Hi @David Rosenthal ,

Any news about custom third-party apps for GCC? Currently right now we can't turn on Allow sideloading of external apps.

I'd like to create my own custom Tab with (SPFx) in a GCC environment for Teams.

Can I turn it on with PowerShell?

I too am looking for an update on this.

Specifically OneNote and Bots

@Jeremy Coleman OneNote should be available soon (Jan 2020):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?featureid=57708

I wouldn't hold my breath for Bots...
