It would be great to have a feature where you can replace/edit the source video file in Steam.  This will allow URLs to remain static for content that may change (or need a quick correction) and not disrupt the user experience.

Going to complete the Form. Thank you Microsoft for considering this request!

The inability to update a video such that existing URLs don't break is a required feature. Can you imagine where SharePoint would be if updates to a file generated a new URL? It wouldn't be on our computers, I can tell you that. :)

Workaroud: Store your video in SharePoint and share from there.
(I say this, hoping it will be a poke in the chest of the Stream team and spur them to make this possible.) I seldom update videos, but we just needed to do this and I was surprised to learn there is no update, so I was really sad. :(

Microsoft

@Roy Faltesek - we are very close on being able to share some good news on this front. Stay tuned :).

Is there a link to the Roadmap for this feature? Not found it casually browsing.

@Vishal Sood , I am eager to hear the good news you said would come soon, back in April. Please update us. I am updating training videos frequently and really need to add new versions of videos.

Likewise, very eager to see this implemented.

That's great news!  Except I don't see how to do it....

@Lonny DillWhere would we find this option?  I am not seeing it in my company's tenant. Is there an article on the release of this update?

Senior Member

@Lonny DillI am not seeing an option to upload a revised video. What did you do to replace an existing video with a new video so it doesn't break the link?

Microsoft

@Andy DeCuir @Lisa Larkin  @ITPro44 - Hi All, thank you for your patience.  This feature is still currently in development and we are currently internally testing it to ensure quality.  We will be sending an update here in a few weeks of the feature being available - at that point, the idea will be marked as completed.

fantastic!  thank you for the update!

Just got this in my O365 weekly updates!  Looking forward to rollout beginning next month!  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/portal-replace-video

Note sure why we need to vote on what amounts to a "gimme".

How was this not implemented in the first place?

Any correction to a video that would require a replacement currently results in a mass corporate wide email, the loss of the comments, etc... yeah, basically a clean wipe of all the other "features".

And it's been years of people asking for it or about it?

Kind of makes the system unusable and one can't recommend its usage to upper management, since they'll be the one looked at when this comes up.

So this article says it's out there now, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/portal-replace-video  yet I do not see the Replace option for my videos yet....

Regular Visitor

Same question as @tadolf, I see this is supposedly live but I don't see the option yet.  What might be the delay? My company supposedly is one of the first to get updates and new features.

Microsoft

@tadolf @Glen Turnbow this feature is in testing stages and users will slowly start to see the feature over the next little while. We will update this idea to completed once the rollout is complete. Thanks for your patience

Nice to know the feedback-system works.

@Amit Rajput

The article, from a few weeks ago, indicated August, but the roadmap says Q3 - which could mean end of September - are you able to confirm August?  This is stopping us from being able to progress our own work.

Senior Member

@Amit Rajput Can you please confirm when will this be available? Happy to test out this feature and help improve it. As like others, this is one of those things we have to have in place.

Agreed, I would also like an option to preserve the transcript and thumbnail when uploading a new video.  Sometimes it would be faster to just edit the transcript to delete content to match revisions to the video than to go through the entire transcript again fixing all the speech to text errors again.

Also not having to replace the thumbnail for the video every time it is revised would be much more user friendly.

Heyhey! It's here for me! I just tested a replace and it looks like it did the trick. replaceVideo1.pngreplaceVideo2.pngreplaceVideo3.png

Status changed to: Completed

Happy to announce that the ability to replace an existing video (both as a file upload and live event) without changing links or embed codes is now fully rolled out world wide.  For more information about this feature, please check out the documentation found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/stream/portal-replace-video
