This seems such a blindingly obvious feature that I'm half convinced I must be mistaken. My org really needs this so that we can finally take our IP off of YouTube. Please can you fix it for me to use the Stream embed code in PowerPoint?

Definitely needed!

it's kind of funny that we have to beg Microsoft to have its own products work with each other.

This feature would really help us share our internal stream content through presentations.

It would make sense to have the ability to embed or insert a video by link into PowerPoint

Any idea when this will be available?  Its kind of crazy that this is not already integrated.  MS?

Definitely need this feature to maximise use of PP / Stream as a combination.

Embedding Stream with PowerPoint would ensure the digital vision we have for our organisation is more complete.

Is there an estimated date for Microsoft to deliver this?

Irritating. We pushed to use Stream for our internal video portal and yet we cannot embedd videos into internal PP presentations!

Surely a key missing feature. Would be good to have a forecast on availability for this one.

How is this not a feature yet??

Agreed, the ability to embed the video instead of uploading to an other provider like YouTube would be great for the institutions we work for.

This would make me very happy.

I take it that this 'feature' still isn't working then. How is that we can embed an external YouTube video, but not internal Stream (or Office 365 Video) content? Ruthlessly absurd.

I wonder what the issue or development challenge is. Is it permissions related to the Stream videos? YouTube is open and doesn't require permissions to view the videos, but Stream is based upon having access to the videos. I can imagine several scenarios where adding in the necessary permissions could fail or give people access to videos which was not originally intended. On the other hand, it doesn't "seem" like it would be overwhelming to build in prompts in PowerPoint for permissions, but I am assuming a lot here... The challenge may not be permissions at all.

I too am interested if this is on the roadmap. It does seem like a basic capability.

Could really do with this feature

I don't understand about 99% of the things that are available through Microsoft 365 and beyond which makes me utterly baffled when the things that you'd expect to be obvious are unavailable.

I have to upload it to YouTube first if I want to stream it, seriously?

We are working on the ability to insert a Stream video into a PowerPoint deck like you can do for other non-authenticated online videos.

This already works in the PowerPoint Online web version and is coming to the desktop clients in the coming months.

Great to hear that this being worked on Marc, and I will test out the online web version. Thank you for the update.

@James Maddison have you tried Office Apps Fiddle for Powerpoint from Office plugins?  I have successfully pasted a MSStream embed link into the html tab, hit run, and the video plays!

As per the latest blog post in the community, this feature is coming soon!

@Jag Kakarlapudi - Can you please provide the link when referencing blogs/announcements. Unfortunately Microsoft is the worst when it comes to announcements and blogs being more discoverable. So many times I recall something from the Message Center in Microsoft 365 Admin center and can't find any information on it after. I've been Googling this subject and can't find any official word around it outside of this thread that was created in 2017 with a status of "Working on it." All that to say it would be a great service if people link the content they reference. There's no option to search the blogs on this site and no category for Stream or PowerPoint so we're a bit in the dark...

@Jer Harwood here's the information related this feature

If you don't see it on your O365 installation, change to monthly channel

This was rolled out to PowerPoint for Windows and Mac a few months back.

See the help article for more info: https://docs.microsoft.com/stream/embed-video-powerpoint

Stream URLs are supported in PowerPoint versions for O365 subscribers:

  • PowerPoint Online
  • PowerPoint for Windows - Version 1906, Build 11727.20210 (and higher)
  • PowerPoint for Mac - Version 16.26.19060901 (and higher)

Short reply: It works! Tested on PowerPoint for Windows! And the nice thing: Your company video is secured! If you have the presentation but not the right to view the video, you do not get it! Good job @Marc Mroz and the Stream team!

Just tested and it does work using the Insert Online Video and pasting the embed code.  Thank You!!!!!!!!
