The Microsoft Stream team is excited to share some new features that are rolling out now! You’ve shared feedback on ways Stream could be improved and we are listening.

  • Trim the beginning and end of recorded live events and videos on-demand
  • Replace your video, and keep the same viewer link
  • Retrieve deleted videos with the recycle bin
  • Office 365 Video migration enabled

Trim the beginning and end of your videos

The new trim feature makes it easy to remove unwanted footage at the beginning or end of a video – including live events and Teams meeting recordings.  Trimming unneeded portions of video makes it more efficient for viewers to get to the main content in your message.

Change your video file, keep the same link

Share a video link with your team, and never worry if you need to replace the video file! This new feature enables video owners and Stream admins to upload a new version of a video, without changing the video link, details or permissions

Recover deleted videos

Accidentally delete a video? Now you can easily retrieve it! The new Recycle Bin feature allows administrators to restore videos for up to 30 days following their deletion.  Additionally, videos in the Recycle Bin can be permanently deleted before the 30-day limit.

Migrate from Office 365 Video to Stream
Last month we launched the Office 365 Video self-service migration for public regions. To begin your migration, an Office 365 Video administrator  will see a banner at the top of Office 365 Video, which will initiate the migration. Customers in GCC, Germany, and China are not yet enabled for the migration and will be enabled at a future date.

We hope you enjoy the new editions to Stream and we look forward to sharing additional announcements with you at Ignite!

Thank you to the development team and all those in the pipeline for these added features!

Great features! Really nice added value for the service Microsoft Stream! Can’t wait to have the video editing functionality in my and in customer tenants! It makes work easier!

One missing but awesome feature: Captions/Transcripts are now also generated for more languages. The new list includes English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/portal-autogenerate-captions).

@lafepb German transcript!!! Yes!!! Very important message!

Clicking on the "Learn more" for the video trimming produces a 403 error, says access to that page is forbidden.

Copper Contributor

Where inside Stream does the trimming occur?  I have no idea if it is enabled in our tenant yet because I don't know where to look.

@Rob Barker here is the direct link to the doc page: https://review.docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/portal-edit-trim?branch=pr-en-us-263

@Rachel Jefferies  check out the link above for details on where to find the edit tool .

@Christina Torok We, normal users, get a 403 (forbidden) calling the link!

@Christina TorokI'm getting that same 403 error just like @Tomislav Karafilov.

Copper Contributor

I am getting the same error as @Rob Barker and @Tomislav Karafilov.

@Christina Torok Works! Thank you very much! A great feature!

Copper Contributor

Thank you - it is working for me now too.  However, @Christina Torok  it doesn't appear that I have that option yet in Stream.  When is it expected to be rolled out for everyone?  Or should I be seeing it?

Former Employee

@Rachel Jefferies  it has started to roll out, so should be a matter of days. It sometimes takes a bit to hit all the data centers. Note that you need to be a video owner, or admin, to use the feature on a video. thanks!

Please add support for audio only content in Stream like internal company podcasts. Would also love to see more tools for simple video editing and audio editing.

Iron Contributor

Great to see more and better functionality. Still miss to share with “anonymous”. I.e use content on a public site, also, having guests within a Team being able to view vide recordings from meetings.

We really like the interface for trimming, and we try to use it often. This feature is key! Otherwise, what's the point of having your video in the cloud if you have to download it and trim, right?

However, sometimes it works fine. Sometimes it doesn't seem to take. Sometimes it seems to break the video for a while. How long should we expect to wait before the trimming is done? Is it like an hour, or more like a day?

Microsoft

@Will Findlay  Thanks for the feedback!  Trimming can take roughly as long as the video length itself, so an hour long video might take an hour to trim.  This is depedent on many factors and hard to predict.  During this time, the video is being shortened and re-encoded into many bit rates, etc.

We have seen an issue where a trimmed video won't play back and are currently investigating.  In most cases, this should remedy itself quickly, but in cases where an organization has network caching it may take longer to recover.  At this time, it is best to wait for the network cache to clear.  If this is still not working, another option might be to download the video and re-upload it as a new video.  Apologies for the inconvenience.

@Christina Torok  Hi, could you please assist me on how to recover a trimmed part of a Teams meeting recording.
