Annoucing Microsoft Search
Published Sep 28 2018 12:56 PM 54.8K Views

This week at Ignite 2018, we announced Microsoft Search. We’re delighted to announce that we are expanding that vision to encompass search both inside and outside of Microsoft 365. By applying artificial intelligence (AI) technology from Bing to the deep personalized insights surfaced by the Microsoft Graph, we are able to make search in your organization even more effective.

With Microsoft Search, we’re introducing new organizational search experiences into the apps you use every day, including Bing.com and Windows, and our vision to connect across your organization’s network of data

My tenant is left in an enrollment loop: https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/Settings/ServicesAndAddIns > Microsoft Search > Request an invitation to the Microsoft Search private preview leads to https://www.bing.com/business/explore where upon clicking on Are you an IT Admin? enroll your business leads right back to ttps://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/Settings/ServicesAndAddIns I'm missing the toggle button at the Services and Addins control

Same here, although I suspect the roll out haven't gotten around to our tenant yet. But I've gotten the information that Microsoft Search should be available...

Please refer to the Requirements for Microsoft Search in Bing. Your Office 365 tenant likely does not meet all the requirements to enable Microsoft Search in Bing.  If you feel that your Office 365 tenant is eligible, please send me a message for further investigation.

We are currently working on updating the message to reflect the tenant eligibility when the admin enables Microsoft Search in Bing.  Apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you soon as we are working hard on expanding the markets & eligibly requirements.

@Raj Kolagotla - off course you are right. I am on a Swedish tenant and the information from your link clearly states that Sweden haven't gotten Microsoft Search enabled, yet. Would like it though. We're such a small "tech craving" country so you should have us on the top of your lists .D

Same here, Austrian tenant. Didn't know that there are any requirements like country.

Yep missed that to, Denmark is also not included yet. Was looking forward to finally have a purpose with Bing

Thanks for the all the interest. As mentioned before, we are actively working to expand the markets & eligibly requirements.

Apologize for the enrollment loop and this should be resolved soon to indicate the tenant eligibility.

Works fine with a german tenant. The indexing of our content (mostly Teams) was fast.

Will test it within the next days.

Will Microsoft Search be able to crawl file servers (similar to how hybrid search using onPrem SharePoint + SPO)?  If so, does it require any onPrem services in order to do so?

Steel Contributor

I'm assuming the 'calendar' view on a person is supposed to match the contacts calendar.  We arent experiencing that functionality today.

You are accurate about the ability to surface results from a SharePoint Hybrid environment.

Regarding the ability to directly crawl file servers, this is one of the highly requested features, but we currently don't support this crawling.

When viewing someone's people card, Today's events shows the availability of that person.  Upcoming events, shows the next two events you have with that person.

@Raj Kolagotla It doesnt seem to be doing that for us.  We are using exchange hybrid though at this point, with some boxes stored on-prem.  Can't seem to find a match to what its showing at this point.

Microsoft

Moving the exchange hybrid and calendar issue offline as this appears to be specific for this setup.

Hello, everyone!

I work at a big organization and we have O365 here. I'd like to know about the search capabilities and "social interaction" of Microsoft Search:

1) Will the users be able to search through the entire organization or only that discussions/documents (it doesn't apply to people) which they already have access?

2) Will the users be able to comment, like or dislike the documents/discussions/etc. or even endorse people, which will appear on the search results?

Thanks!

Microsoft

@LUCAS MENDONCA LOPES

Hello Lucas,

  1. Yes. All of this is security trimmed at source and so users can only see discussions and documents that they have access to.
  2. Microsoft Search in Bing is a search product and we have not built a review or endorse feature into this product. Thanks for the suggestion and we will look into this.

Hi Naomi,

Are we likely to see the custom entities coming soon?

Thanks,

Angus

Hi everyone

I saw a live Microsoft Search demo at BETT2019 in London from Ovi and a similar live demo at the SharePoint Saturday’s in Brussels last year in Q4 from @Naomi Moneypenny .
But I can’t enable it in the O365 tenant.
On this: microsoftsearch_requirements page i saw that it is not available yet in Belgium.
Therefore my question is quite simple, when will it be available for Belgium tenants?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Copper Contributor

Hi,

When will Microsoft Search be available for Belgium. It is already available in The Netherlands. It wouldn't be a problem that it is only available in English, most conversations and documents within our organisation are in English anyway.

Kind Regards,

Luc

I agree with @Luc Van Cauwenberge , please release it to Belgium asap. It is available in France and The Netherlands. So why not Belgium?

Iron Contributor

When will the "updated" search be available to all tenants? My tenant is not in First Release and I still see the old search behavior rather than it being at the top of my SharePoint site.
