Hello,

We deployed Windows 10 PC by using Microsoft Intune.

We use the Windows 10/Office 365 app profile to deploy Office 365 on these PC.

After the enrollment of the Windows 10 device, Office ProPlus appears in the app settings of the device and works fine.

When an Office update occurs, the app settings of the PC shows the Office ProPlus and an new Office 365 Business item.

When this occurs, we have some issues because of these two Office instances. For example, the file extensions associations are lost.

The question is: why the Office update installs a "Office 365 Business" whereas the intial setup done by Intune installed a "Office ProPlus" ?

Thanks

@Emmanuel705 What are the users Office license entitlement? almost sounds like ProPlus has been installed via Intune but the entitlement is only Office 365 Business

Hello,
Thé users are assigned with « Microsoft 365 business » licences.
Thanks
Microsoft 365 Business comes with Office 365 Business (not ProPlus), so this is an expected behavior as i have read somewhere else. Although i thought it would uninstall previous version and install Business one, but it seems it is not.

@Oleg K and @Emmanuel705 you do have to configure the policy to remove previous installations.  This is a non-Microsoft article but really well done with screenshots of the whole process plus an alternative distribution method.  https://www.itpromentor.com/deploy-office-m365b/

Actually i was referring to this person's (Alex from itpromentor) comment on other thread where he mentioned that ProPlus installation should revert to Business once it pulls the license information. The article you have linked to describes how to install Office and remove preinstalled MSI or C2R Office. But author of this thread doesn't have preinstalled Office. They are installing it via Intune. But they install ProPlus. Then it pulls license information (or during regular update) and installs Business version along ProPlus. In the article there is no mention or a screen where you can choose to install Business version instead of ProPlus. Maybe he just skipped that part. I think there should be additional setting to select what version to install. Or maybe this is done in config.office.com and then this config is imported into Intune to install proper version instead of default ProPlus.

@Oleg K

Hi,

We finally deployed an Intune profile to uninstall Office ProPlus and a new profile (App type Office 365 Suite/Windows 10) by using ODT XML file to configure Office Business instead of Office ProPlus.

The pro : the right version of Office is now deployed

The cons : we cannot include Teams with this deployment method.

Huh. Can you clarify for me a bit. When you create ODT XML you can't select Teams there? Or when you create an Intune profile with XML, you can't adjust Office apps selection then?

@Oleg KYes, the config.office.com tool does not provide a way to include/exclude Microsoft Teams among the different apps whereas it's possible via the builtin Office Proplus app profile in Intune.

Well, this feels like a shortcoming of Intune dealing with somewhat new Microsoft 365 plans. I guess MS should just move M365 to ProPlus. It is already having more features than similar Office 365 Business license. I found this on UserVoice. You can vote for this and bring their attention to this issue. https://microsoftintune.uservoice.com/forums/291681-ideas/suggestions/36123835-add-deployment-of-off...

@Emmanuel705 It looks like the Office Deployment Team (separate from Intune) is addressing how Teams is or is not included with Office deployments and that it is a relatively recent change.  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/teams-install

I saw that the other day as well, would need to test is if it also applies to Office 365 Business as well as ProPlus. and would need to test with Monthly or SACT update channel as it is not rolling out to SAC channel until July 9, 2019.

@Emmanuel705you can also address the Teams installer as a seperate Intune Client App - Line-of-business app using the teams MSI installers https://aka.ms/teams32bitmsi https://aka.ms/teams64bitmsi

ensure that when you set the App conifugration that you turn on "Ignore app version" as Teams is self-updating

Or if you wanted more control of the package and checking installed version etc make it an "Windows app (Win32)" client app and use either the Teams_windows_x64.exe or the Teams_windows_x64.msi and configure application detection rules. with this you will need to download the Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool (https://github.com/Microsoft/Microsoft-Win32-Content-Prep-Tool) to create the .intunewin file
