Outlook Customer Manager (Contacts vs. Companies

What is the intended way to utilize contacts vs. companies in outlook customer manager? Why and when would you use one over the other? And, if emails are only associated with contacts, why even bother with a Companies tab?

 

This is especially if deals and tasks are not even linked between company and contacts

 

I just started using it and it doesn't entirely make since to me, and no microsoft videos I have seen actually explain this.
