The Exchange Client Access (aka Front End) team is looking for Program Managers!

To answer your first question, What the heck does a Program Manager do?, read this post from the Microsoft JobsBlog.  There are a bunch of great links in that post to other blog postings from Microsoft PMs. As a matter of fact, every single post and link on that blog is useful to you as a potential Microsoft candidate.  OK, are you back from reading about PMs, and agree with me that the PM job is the most interesting job at Microsoft?  With these jobs, you have the unusual benefit of knowing details about the job that we have open! (believe me, that is unusual when applying for a job at Microsoft)

Job #1 – Exchange mobile device access: We have an opening in our PM team that is defining the next generation Exchange mobile device access experience.  In particular this person will be focused on the IT Pro experience.  Experience as an Exchange administrator/architect is a plus, as it will make it easier for you to know what administrators want.  Excellent cross-team and customer-facing skills are necessary, as well as deep technical capabilities in administrative interface and protocol design. General knowledge of and passion for mobile devices, e-mail and calendaring, XML web services, and distributed systems are all a plus.

Job #2 – Exchange programmability: We are building a new XML Web Services-based interface to Exchange, and we need your help.  There are thousands of applications that interface with the Exchange store, including Microsoft Entourage, line-of-business applications written by customers, and applications from major ISVs.  XML Web Services allows us to build a remotable, .NET-oriented, Internet-friendly interface to Exchange that is easy to use by part-time developers building a quick tool and flexible for the power coder at an ISV.  You’ll be a key driver of this interface, involved in API design of internal and external interfaces.  The ideal candidate for this position is a strong C/C++ developer who wants to take a broader view and have a scope across an entire product.

One important point about these jobs is that we are looking for people who have very strong technical design and project/product management experience.  We are looking for people with at least 3-5 years experience doing these kinds of things.  We have had successful PMs who have done very technical product design/management of non-software things like aircraft wings; experience shipping software is a plus but is not a strict requirement. For both jobs, a BA/BS or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.

To apply for either of these jobs, please send an email with your resume attached and the Job # in the subject to:
