Why don't slicers update to reflect a timeline selection?

When I create a pivot table and add two slicers and select a value in one slicer, the other slicer updates to reflect the values that have been filtered in and out by the selection on the first slicer.

 

When I add a timeline slicer and select a date range, the regular slicers do not update to reflect the values that have been filtered in and out by the selection on the timeline.

 

Is this how Excel is supposed to behave? Our users are getting confused by this, as for example they select a month on the timeline and then look at the accounts slicer and see that all accounts were apparently active in that month, when they weren't.

 

This article seems to confirm the confusing behaviour we are getting, but I would really like to get an official confirmation that this is the intended behaviour:
