Unable to delete Document Recovery Items

I am unable to delete thousands of files listed in the Document Recovery pane of Excel (Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Plus). The Delete option is greyed out. Files are already deleted at source, so if I try to open/save any file from the pane, it results in error saying file has been deleted from the path (UNC share). It may be noteworthy that user account is domain account.

I had the same issue, it resolved itself in some time. My guess is that in my case I have my file backed up by onedrive so it takes a some time to sync
