Having trouble editing cell that has shape formatting in Excel

Occasional Visitor

some cells show shape format and will not allow me to edit the cell normally. how do I disable shape format for cells?

I expect there is a shape placed on top of those cells. Just click on the shape and hit the Del key should get rid of it, unless those shapes are in fact activeX controls.

There is a shortcut for hiding All Floating shapes in the worksheet (Shapes, Charts, Pictures...) so if you hide them you will be able to format the cell underneath. The shortcut is CTRL +6

By the way, it's a toggle shortcut.

Hope that helps
