External Links

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have a large excel workbook that I creating and am using on a mac. I recently added to the workbook and must have added an external link. I know I should have been more careful but I cannot find the link and cannot break the link. I have tried to search the for the link but to no avail. I also tried to break the link but it didn't work.

Can anybody help?

@Jeff01840 I'm on Excel for Mac, v16.28

You wrote you tried breaking the links. Assuming you went through the "Edit links" option found in either the Data-ribbon or the Data drop-down menu. Strange that it didn't work.

Try this one. On Excel/Preferences/View, check the "Formulae" box. This will display the formula entered for each cell, instead of the outcome of each formula. External links will stand out something like " '=/Users/Xxxx/Documents/[Book2.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1" ". It will require some manual review, but might help you identify the cells that contain the external links.
