Excel crashing on loading a file

For the past week, Excel has been closing completely when loading a file. Reloading Excel then shows a damaged copy of the file that was loading when it crashed, asking whether it should be kept.

Is it just me experiencing this? What can be done to stop it?

Excel crashes out nearly every time I open a file too.  I restart Excel and start a New Workbook and then see the file I just tried to open listed in the recovery pane - I select is and it opens just fine proving that there is nothing wrong with the file.

Has been going on for months on all my three computers.  No-one else seems to be reporting this problem.
