Delete old Headers/Footers in Excel

I want to delete old headers & footers that are on the drop-down lists under Page Setup - Header/Footer.  How can I delete these?

Hello Keith,

 

Some of them are just suggestions based on the username, file name, current date, and so on.

So you cannot delete them, they are built-in!

 

But if you have some custom headers and footers already found in the workbook, you will see them in the drop-down list.

 

If you want to delete all the custom headers and footer from your workbook at once, you can do it as follows:

  • Go to File >> Info >> Check for Issues >> Inspect Document.
  • From the Document Inspector dialog box, deselect all checkboxes except Headers and Footers checkbox.
  • If the Document Inspector found some headers or footers in the workbook, you will see a button to remove them all.
