A challenge Excel 2019 changes formatting of @ text field when entering 1- changes format to General

Copper Contributor

I have seen some funning things in my time but I cannot seem to get around this (Excel 2019 local app)

A table with heading all formatted using @ so should be all text but if I enter 1- and then any number I get, for example entering 1-5 it comes out as 1-52 (by the way it is still formatted as @ in the formatting dialog) perplexed :-), challenge to anyone to explain why it formats to General Number format when it is actually Text formatted using @ in custom format

Hi @Gavrea

All Table columns must be unique so if there is already a column 1-5 then it makes the new column 1-52

If you added another column 1-5 it would convert to 1-53 etc

You could change the Table back to a range but then you would lose the benefits of Table functionality
