Hi.

After updating to the newest version of MS Edge, there is a banner in Google Drive's apps:

Slides, Docs and Sheets.

"The version of the browser you are using is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser. "

Is this something on Google's end (not "whitelisting" the new Edge) ?

Yep having the same message pop up on the latest canary build as well

@Jdreioe
I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to google, but it is more likely the unfamiliar user agent string. Gdrive sees the Edg/76.0.145.0 and does not know what that is. It assumes that it is unsupported and urges you to Install Chrome™ instead.

We are aware of this issue and are working with the site owners to get it addressed. Thank you for taking the time to try out the Insider channels of Microsoft Edge

Yep.
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/google-docs-says-chromium-based-microsoft-edge-is-no...

But also:
Google can fix, but Microsoft can fix it faster

As there should not be any reason for Google to not whitelist the new Edge's useragent string, how fast Google fixes this issue on their side will indicate whether they plan on playing fairly.

The good news is that Microsoft has a function built into the new Microsoft Edge that allows it switch its useragent as needed based on the domain being visited.

As we reported earlier this month, this is being done so that sites who whitelist or offer different features based on a browser's useragent string will work properly in the new Microsoft Edge.

If Google decides to take their time resolving this problem, Microsoft can bypass them altogether and create a new rule for the docs.google.com URL and use Chrome's useragent string so that this "unsupported" message goes away.

:p

@Elliot Kirk  As of 10:00 p.m. EDT 4/30/19 Google has fixed the issue on their end.  I went into Drive and opened .doc and sheets and there is no message displayed on Dev.  Nice quick work by Microsoft and Google - good job.

Eric
