Extension vetting & security

To what extent are extensions vetted in the Microsoft-version of the Chromium extension-store? There have been malicious extensions in the Google Chrome-store in the past that stole data and spied on users. Will Chromium-Edge users be able to download any extension without a single worry, or do we still need to do our own careful research?

Thanks for the info. That page lays out the rules, but it doesn't clearly state in what way apps are checked before they're allowed or not.
