A newly reported issue with the February 2015 release of the System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection and Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 client has been observed on a limited number of computers running Windows 8.1.

On some systems, an earlier version of mpoav.dll is loaded, or remains registered, during the installation of the 4.7.205.0 client.

This configuration can lead to a conflict in binaries, resulting in Internet Explorer 11, or other web browsers, blocking all downloads.
Users will see the message “This file contained a virus and was deleted” when attempting to download any file.

Work is underway on a revised version of the Endpoint Protection client for release through Microsoft Update. In the meantime, version 4.7.205.0 was removed from our update servers on Friday February 20 to minimize the chance of more customers running into this issue.

No action is required if you have already deployed the February 2015 client release without incident.

If you have computers affected by this issue, it may be necessary to uninstall the 4.7.205.0 Endpoint Protection client, and then install a previously working version. The October 2014 release , 4.6.305.0, does not encounter this issue.

Note this issue does not affect all computers running Windows 8.1.

Update February 25:

Testing of the revised update is still in progress; it will be released as soon as we can. For customers with System Center 2012 R2, version 4.6.305.0 is available via Cumulative Update 4 . Version 4.5.216.0 is the latest endpoint protection client currently available via Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Update. The new version of the client will upgrade clients from 4.5 and up, including those with 4.7.205.0.

Update March 2, 2015

The revised update to address the Internet Explorer download issue is now available on Microsoft Update and Windows Software Update Services as KB3041687 . This release is version 4.7.209.0.
