Power Query fails on loading large SharePoint List

Hello,

I am trying to load a larger list >40K records with a few lookups into Power Query. It works for smaller lists, but fails with following error msg on large lists.

DataSource.Error: SharePoint: Request failed: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. (An error occurred while processing this request.)

Are there limitations for Power Query on concerning SharePoint list sizes?

Formal PQ limits are here https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Power-Query-specifications-and-limits-5fb2807c-1b16-4257-aa.... Unfortunately don't know the answer on Error 500 with Sharepoint list, only remember similar issue was discussing from time to time on Power BI community.
