Today is the first day of KubeCon, so there’s no better time to talk about Kubernetes + Azure!

Providing you with the tools and resources to make the most of Kubernetes isn’t anything new at Microsoft. It comes out of our broader effort to help you build cloud-native apps that take maximum advantage of fully managed services, seamlessly integrated development tools, and built-in enterprise-grade security. Our guiding philosophy is to empower you to use the tools and technologies of your choice to implement a microservices-based, cloud-native architecture for the applications to revolutionize experiences for both your employees and customers.

That’s where container orchestrators such as Kubernetes come in. Perhaps you’ve adopted Kubernetes or at least have considered adopting it to manage the growing number of microservices containers in your environment. Either way, you need to be ready for the way that adopting Kubernetes ripples across your entire portfolio. You and your company need to make engineering process changes, retrain and hire people, create new roles, and so on. The technologies and tools you use are important, even crucial, to your success, but so is the education you get, the processes you put into place, and the ways you steer your application development.

Our library of Kubernetes resources is suited for a variety of educational styles, giving you just the information you need when you need it or, if you prefer, giving you a deep immersion in the subtleties and complexities of Kubernetes and container orchestration.

To learn about Kubernetes, check out our Kubernetes Learning Path guide. It’s a comprehensive collection of videos, articles, interactive training modules, workshops, e-book, and webinar anywhere on the internet. You can binge-watch and consume the resources or fit several minutes a day into your schedule over a period of weeks. Here’s what your learning path could look like:

It’s always best to go to the source when you want to learn something. That’s why we offer a series of 18 bite-sized videos (5–7 minutes each) from Kubernetes co-founder Brendan Burns, a Distinguished Engineer in Compute R&D for Microsoft Azure. Burns gives you an exclusive insider’s introduction that will answer your general questions on why you should care about containers and Kubernetes, what you need to know about its components and deployments, and how it works. He also addresses how to use the schedule and build pipeline, the basics of stateful applications, configuration management, role-based access control, and getting production ready.

As you’ll discover in exploring our resources, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to Kubernetes education. We know you may be anywhere from neophyte to expert, so we have resources that are right for you right where you are. Beginners can benefit from Kubernetes for the Klueless and How Kubernetes Works. Those who are further along in their Kubernetes journeys may want to go directly to the DevOps + Kubernetes online course, our article on best practices for building and managing apps on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), or look at microservices architecture on AKS. Those last two resources will help you get the most from Azure Kubernetes Service, a fully managed service for deploying and managing containerized applications.

In addition to the developer resources from Microsoft, cloud-native application development and Kubernetes was highlighted at Microsoft Ignite that took place on November 4–8 in Orlando, and of course they’ll be center-stage at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon on November 18–21 in San Diego. Whether it’s online or at one of these conferences, there’s never been a better time for you to learn all you can to make your use of cloud-native apps and Kubernetes as effective, productive, and painless for you and your organization as possible.
