Bypassing AAD Guest User Registration for SPO or Teams

Joseph Nierenberg

In order to have a guest (external person from a different organization) access a SharePoint Online resource or to chat with the guest in Teams, I believe I could first register the guest in AAD and then later provide the guest with access in SPO or chat with them in Teams. But is it also correct that I would not lose any functionality if I shared an SPO resource by providing the guest with access directly on the site's permissions page or by sharing a list without having first added the guest in AAD; or by adding the guest to a team in Teams, without first having added the guest in AAD?

A related question: if I need to chat in Teams with a colleague at a different organization and I do not add the person to a team, do I first have to add the person as a guest in AAD?
