I think I just realized one source of confusion in this network. The Space cards show Posts above Conversations, which is the exact opposite of the actual hierarchy. Given that each Conversation will always contain at least one Post (the initial posting), it would make more sense to me if the Space cards had the count of Conversations above the count of Posts.
Ideally, it would show Conversations that I have not yet viewed, and posts that I have not yet read and would include a link to a page with a filtered list of those items.
