Replication Publishing takes too long on SQL Server 2016

Hi all,

I have configured a Merge Replication Publishment on SQL Server 2016.

The Database is just 900MB size.

But the publishment takes very long. The initial runtime is about 40 Minutes.

And the next start (just for differences, and there are none) takes 20 Minutes.

We have configured the same replication previously on SQL Server 2008. And there the DB is much larger and the publishment just takes seconds/few minutes for creating the delta.

Has something changed in the SQL versions, why it takes much longer now?

Are there any hints what can be configured additionally to come back to a shorter runtime for the publishment?

Thanks for any help

Christoph

SSRS Reports: Date Parameters not filtering report data

Hi,

I am working on SSRS Reports for which my source is a Tabular Model. when I create a dataset , an MDX query is generated automatically. Now my requirement is that I want to add two date parameters (Start and end dates) using a date picker and use them to filter records. Also I do not have date dimension table in my model. All I have is different date fields in our base tables and so would apply this filter on any required date fields.

This works fine if I use filters on dataset using the date parameters. But the draw back is it fails on bigger data sets as SSRS try to fetch all the records and then applies the filters.

so I am looking for a method to include these date parameters inside MDX query so that it filters the records and then fetches only qualifying records to SSRS. But I am unable to achieve this as of now. I have already posted this question in msdn forum and placing that thread here for reference.

https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/40d1c01a-20eb-4f86-9efe-64bfc9ea362b/ssrs-performance-issue-with-date-parameters?forum=sqlreportingservices&prof=required

can some one help me in achieving this?

Thanks and Regards,

Balaji

This is a two (2) nodes Windows Failover Cluster on MS Azure cloud with a SQL Server 2014 Always-On Availability Group running on it. We need to insert 3rd node in the Failover Cluster (and the Always-On AG). When trying to insert new node (using Failover Cluster Manager on one of the existing nodes), I get this error message: "KEYSET DOES NOT EXIST". I have read some posts that this is related to permissions on directory "C:\PROGRAMDATA\MICROSOFT\CRYPTO\RSA\MACHINEKEYS\" and its contents and I have followed advice to modify these permissions - but this did not solve the problem.

Has anyone seen this before?

Hello,

We need to implement a MDM (Master Data Management) solution on our data Platform, and I though about SQL Master Data Service (MDS) and Data Quality Service (DQS). The point is SQL Server is not the only data source. We also have HDFS Hortonworks, Postgres and MySQL.

Is MDS fully dedicated to "only MS" environment like I usually see on blogs, or can we plug heterogeneous DBs on that (typically HDFS with Polybase for example) ?

TIA for your help.

Fred.M.

Hi Ahmad,

I'm not sure to fully understand your need, but please consider the following bullet :

- From performance perspective, triggers are not the best way to go.

- Why don't you allow your Order record to be childless, and then add a record into the Delivery table after, via user interface typically ?

Finally, to keep your solution in place :

- Define your DeliveryID column as a BigInt, and enable the Identity property to True (ref your screenshot). Then the value of your DeliveryID column will be automatically incremented for each new record.

- Define your DeliveryID column as a UniqueIdentifier, and define a default value as new_sequentialid().

Hope this helps.

Fred.M.

SQL Server 2017 Tabular Data Model

I've created a tabular data model in Analysis Services. The model is set to update nightly from two SharePoint lists. I can't get the credentials to stick, so the nightly refresh fails.

When I go in and set credentials in SSMS, I can process the model fine. I had another admin process the model and it worked fine. I can even trigger the scheduled job and that works fine as well--regardless of who runs the job. Why won't the credentials stick overnight? Has anyone seen this? Any ideas?

Hi,
I want a full download of SQL Server 2017 evaluation software so that I can transfer that to one of our test servers on the network and install it there. Those servers will not be having internet connection for the installer.exe to download and install.

All I want to do is an offline install. I need full software. All I'm getting from the download page is a 5MB installer. I cannot use that installer on our network servers because they will not be connected to the internet.

I contacted Microsoft support on chat and even that person don't know what to do in this case.

Can anyone help me.

Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir

Installation of SQL Server Express fails due to "password policy"

I'm attempting to install SQL Server Express 2017 to a Server 2016 Essentials server that is acting as a domain controller, and it's failing when trying to create a "local" SQLEXPRESS00 account, due to a "password policy"

The password policy is default, but may have been modified by the Essentials experience configuration wizard when connecting to Azure. The wizard mentioned something about having to change the password policy to be compatible with Azure.

I attempted to install from the command line, specifying a configuration file and hard-coding the service account passwords (4 different command line flags, all the same password, the password does comply with the policy) but that failed as well.

Anyone know how to install SQL Express on a 2016 Essentials box, hopefully one that's been configured to connect to Azure?

Hi

I am using the mySQL version 6.0.1 with Spring. I have a stored procedure defined with default values in my SQL server 2014 standard version.

SQLServerDatabaseMetaData get columns method returns all columns information except default value which is always null. Appreciate if i can get some insight on it

@event_id varchar(25) = 'INITIATED',

reading default value of a column

rs.getString("COLUMN_DEF")

what am i missing here

FullText Search with phrases

Hi,

I've set up a FullText search (for French language) on an SQL DB and i'm querying the index using phrases like the following : "BAER module batterie réversible CAD HR basic XL 130"

I'm using CONTAINSTABLE function and i believe its trying to match the whole phrase rather than getting the most suitable match using combination of words in the phrase.

So i believe i need to somehow build a search text using AND, OR etc... to get the best match out of the index or is there some other way to tackle this?
