Debugger tools on Edge freeze on Intel Mac(Big Sur 11.5.2)

When I am developing a React website using Edge as a debugger for a localhost website. Sometimes the debugger tools will break as in they become totally unresponsive. This also breaks the website as I now need to spam click the webpage for any action to happen on the site. Think buttons onClick events or navigation events. The only way I have gotten this to fix is to totally close Edge and re-open it.

The best way I can say to replicate this issue is try changing css of a site or putting, breakpoints in and trying to view a variable.

Sticky pinned sidebars?

So, we now have pin-able sidebars for Favorites, History etc. Is there any intention to enable them to be made sticky so that they will remain pinned or not after the browser is restarted? This would preferably be by a UI switch setting so users have a choice.

Loss of Favicons on Microsoft Edge Chromium

After a Windows 10 update all the favicons for my huge mass of favourites have disappeared - they are replaced by a blank page shape.
I have searched the web but cannot see a fix.
Does anybody know how I can recover ALL of these favicons ? Individual recovery is not an option.
If I use a favourite site the favicon returns - this is no use for the entire list.

Since version 93.0.961.47 my favorite and most visited websites are no longer displayed when selecting the address bar. In the past, icons with the most visited websites always appeared. Is this a bug or on purpose? It would be a pity if this practical function were permanently missing.

I just got updated to 93, and there's the usual splash screen with info on updates. "See ratings!" "Apply all your coupons!" "Save money!". All of this sounds exactly like the privacy invading nonsense that is affecting just about all free software these days.

I think it's a huge mistake to not accompany all this with a disclaimer stating why this DOES respect your privacy. I came to Edge from Chrome because of privacy concerns, but by now Edge is beginning to feel like the worse of the two, with built-in "coupon stuff".

We had a discussion before that Edge does take some care to keep this info private, but without communicating this to the user, Edge looks as bad as or even worse than other options out there. Please reconsider this approach! As in, maybe put 'privacy communication approach' on a team meeting agenda in the coming weeks?

Add Text to your PDF documents

We have received a lot of love from you ever since we started our journey of building a PDF reader that addresses all your annotations and form fill needs. Taking another step towards fulfilling that goal, we are now introducing a feature that lets you add text directly to your PDF documents.

Do you remember the last time you encountered that annoying PDF document that was meant to be a form but had no editable fields? We are now bringing an end to all your form filling woes with the ‘Add text’ feature that lets you add text to the document with customizable font size, color, and spacing options. All you need to do is click on the button in the toolbar and place the cursor anywhere on the document to add the text box and start typing. You can also click on ‘Add text’ in the right click menu anywhere on the document to add a text box. Try it to out type in text and take notes on top and in the margins of the PDF documents you are reading!

Once you have placed the text box, you can change the font color, size and text spacing through the mini menu attached to the textbox. The default font size is set to 12px which you can increase up to 48px or decrease up to 9px. The default color is set to blue you can change to black, green, or red based on what you need that day.

To make your form filling experience even smoother, we retain the last textbox format set by you for as long as your PDF document is open.

You can now use this tool to fill in forms or add visible notes to your PDF documents. [Feature Request] Advanced search engine control

There's a chromium fork called Cent Browser, which have a feature that allow users to search for selected text in non-default search engines, by right-clicking and choose "Search other engines for" submenu.

I used to use this browser and changed to edge for a year, and every time I have to copy.the text and paste into the address bar to search with a specific SE. It'll make Edge more powerful if there's such a submenu in Edge, and a selector on the search sidebar, and if possible, a SE selector in address bar just like Firefox, as not everybody can memorize all SEs in their browser. It'll be even better if there's a hide option to hide some of the SEs from the submenu and selectors (still can be used by abbr. + Tab key).

Deleting saved passwords using a policy Edge for Mac

Edge Dev Default Search Broken

On Microsoft Edge Dev 95.0.1000.0, type search terms into the address bar and hit enter. Nothing happens. I also noticed that highlighting text and right-clicking no longer has the option to search for the highlighted text. If I perform the same procedure on Microsoft Edge Stable 93.0.961.38, it searches Google with the entered/selected terms, as expected.

I noticed that the default search engine in Edge Settings appears to be corrupt in Edge Dev and looks okay in Edge Prod.

In our company, the default search engine is managed by a GPO, per the instructions / example in the GPMC. This registry entry is shared between all versions of Edge on a machine…so it seems as though Edge Dev has the issue if Edge Stable still works fine.:

Known issues:

Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated. This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable. We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

Webview2's equivalent to edge://settings/content/insecureContent ?

Programs that use Webview is not honoring the setting placed inside of edge://settings/content/insecureContent.

Does Webview have it's own settings area so that http:// (not s) can be done without the warning message? Ie. for use with internal ip servers, etc.

Unable to run Microsoft Edge Dev in Manjar with AUR install

CA ServiceDesk 12.9 attachment download issue starting Edge 93

Hello,

in our company we've got a CA ServiceDesk 12.9 which works properly with Chrome no matter its version. And we were happy this CA ServiceDesk 12.9 worked perfectly well with Chromium Edge. Until we upgraded Edge to version 93 in select machines.

And then the download attachments functionality with version 93 became broken, it was working properly in Chromium Edge version 92 and it is still working with updated Chrome.

When a user clicks on a link to the attachment, a javascript&colon;download_exec(attListData[attmnt:####]) gets invoked, which opens a new window. This is how it properly looks up to Edge 92 :

But starting with Edge version 93, and even in 94 the website started to behave badly, same actions would invoke a new window with no attachment visible at the bottom:

You see? There's no bottom part of the Chromium Edge window. As if the download is just below the window. The blue arrow points to the edge of the window. Resizing that window doesn't help, the attachment doesn't get revealed. Refresh doesn't help either, authentication doesn't carry over a refresh.

There IS a workaround we can use -- go to the primary window, press Ctrl+J to open up a downloads dropdown, and get the attachment from there, but you understand that this is a no-go for Enterprise users -- a showstopper for Chromium Edge adoption. CA Servicedesk hasn't been upgraded, only Edge, so it's a Edge's problem, not CA Servicedesk's.

Is this a bug? Can it be fixed in upcoming releases? I'm ready to be contacted.

Edge shortcut for outlook on the web app stopped working

Hi All,

I use outlook for web with Edge. Some time ago the shortcut for outlook web app I have pined on the taskbar stopped working. Gives me "The item 'mesedge_proxy.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or removed, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?"

Shortcuts for other web apps such as YT Music are still working. Also, outlook web app shortcut created and pind to the taskbar with Chrome is still working too. The issues seems to be related only to outlook web app created with Edge.

I'm using a work laptop joined to work domain.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any fixes?

UserDataSnapshotRetentionLimit and Endless growing Edge Profile

Since V86 its possible to Rollback the version of Edge. For this rollback in a userprofile snapshot ist saved under AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Snapshots.

Unfortunatly endless growing.

I thought maybe UserDataSnapshotRetentionLimit would limit the grow and delete not any more neccessary snaphsots. unfortunatly not.

How can i prevent snapshots to eat up all my available space and slow down login for roaming profiles on terminalserver.

Use accent colour for browser UI controls

Today Microsoft Edge Chromium's browser UI always uses blue regardless of the accent colour set on the system. Although websites can't obtain the accent colour, I think the browser UI (including Settings) should use it for a more consistent experience. Additionally, I think it would be better if text selection and hyperlinks also uses a variant accent colour by default within Microsoft Edge as long as the site doesn't customise it.

could anyone please be so kind to tell me something about which update impact might Edge Enterprise (Stable) have if on my OS there's still running a non updated version of 'MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe'?

Here are more details about what I verified. When I installed Edge Enterprise it was v92.0.902.73 (Stable) and I found that almost immediately after initial downloading of 'MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe' v1.3.147.37 it downloaded latest v1.3.151.27 and removed contents of 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\1.3.147.37'.

So far all might seems to be fine, but after checking that 'MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe' also configured own 2 instances with Schedule service, I verified the running instance(s) (because sometimes there are 2 executing) are still the older v1.3.147.37 one(s) (and yes, if wondering about it it's 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe').

Now so far my Edge Enterprise (Stable) has reached v93.0.961.38 (Official build) (64-bit) anyway but since yesterday afternoon v93.0.961.44 was self downloaded and already installed where appropriate (well that's according to C:\Windows\Temp\msedge_installer.log contents) but even if I completely close all v93.0.961.38 windows there are 2 msedge.exe instances that remain still running.

OK, I know this might probably depend from 'Startup boost' but I left it disabled since the beginning and a part having 'Use hardware acceleration when available' still enabled since the beginning the only other setting I only temporarily enabled was 'Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed' (but I've left disabled since after I verified it was creating dumps whenever my laptop OS was being suspended into memory as I also reported in another report I sent yesterday but still under review).

I'm wondering if a possible side effect of wrong 'MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe' version might even be that whenever I check Edge version, the rolling icon near 'Checking for updates' never stops (and so far only with 1st self update from v92.0.902.73 to v92.0.902.84 I saw a proper notification that an Edge update already took place and I simply had to restart it to run updated version),

So does anyone have comments to let me know if what I reported here and unexpectedly delayed version update in particular, is indeed normal and expected (any more ideas or suggestions to definitely fix/avoid the rest I reported are very welcome too ;) ).

P.S. This time I'm also avoiding animated emoji since their size in discussions preview indeed seem to be bigger and maybe disturbing more then I've ever expected... :-S

@ MS Edge Product Team, (please note that I just simply edited some content on 9/13 to only make some things clearer and obviously not to repost it at all, also if you should believe Enterprise might be a better board for posting then feel just free to redirect it there since I've no idea if I might be able to do this by my side...)

since after I started only using 'accessory' features of 'Startup boost' (so meaning that only 'Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed' and 'Use hardware acceleration when available' are enabled) I noticed that whenever I was suspending OS (in memory), after I resumed it I could quite find these 2 things :

a 1 byte ('flag') file 'edge_shutdown_crash.txt' simply containing "1" character (inside 'C:\Users\<myAlias>\AppData\Local\Temp'),
a new 'GUID-like-name'.dmp crash file (i.e. like 9ae5f8e8-a11c-46e6-be43-0d1aa61d9a73.dmp; 67c6c17c-708c-48bf-9017-2eb7ac42f6e1.dmp, and please note these are real crash report names, probably last created ones, whose names I've been able to recover) added inside 'C:\Users\<myAlias>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Crashpad\reports' folder that I started monitoring manually after I experienced 1st dump little after I installed Edge Enterprise (Stable) (it was even also self-reported by an Edge wizard that asked me for approval before sending it).

If I'm recalling things correctly I probably found 'Use hardware acceleration when available' already enabled since the beginning and left so (unless I enabled it), then after I better also checked that 'Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed' was available too I enabled it to also possibly get resulting benefits too.

I started seeing issue with Edge (Enterprise) v92.0.902.73 (Official build) (64-bit), while now I'm on v93.0.961.38 (Official build) (64-bit) but decided to disable 'Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed' after checking that number of .dmp files into ...\Crashpad\reports was only growing even if 'Help improve Microsoft products by sending optional diagnostic data about how you use the browser, websites you visit, and crash reports' was enabled since when I 1st installed Edge Enterprise and this also stopped new dump creation (at least only temporarily because this morning 09/13 I verified a new one was created because of resuming laptop suspended into memory even while simply only having 'Use hardware acceleration when available' still left enabled and about this I also updated another new discussion with even some more details).

My problem is that I'm unsure if by using 'Send feedback' with [ Recreate my problem ] I can really provide you much more details of what I'm saying here because I'm unsure if diagnostic data recording can survive properly whenever my laptop OS gets suspended in memory, and then resumed.

P.S. Last moment update, right before completing and publishing this post I checked again ...\Crashpad\reports and found that was empty :o so now I'm also wondering if all those reports were properly sent to you (as I would expect) or simply self cleaned to avoid wasting space (unless this simply happened because a newer version update was just queued and pending to be applied...).

It also seems that every 'GUID-like-name'.dmp should also have a corresponding 'GUID-like-name'_crashinfo.txt saved in same folder but I never saw or found one there in that folder...

Thanks in advance for any feedback or comments about this issue and/or for trying to clear some of my doubts.

I'm sorry about trying to address you directly with this topic from here, but it's only because you confirmed me receiving 2nd feedback I created about being unable to install 'Clipboard History Pro' specific Edge Extension(Add-on) from Edge Add-ons BETA (MS store) (and also because I found no other instructions around about avoiding to try to do so from here...).

Because I've found 'addon_site_log_capture.log' inside C:\Users\<myalias>\AppData\Local\Temp and because I know with my feedback you already collected 'Edge Add-Ons Site Diagnostics' I'd basically like to know if that one I found corresponds to the one you already collected.

Otherwise I'll obviously be very happy to send same file I found to you (unless you might prefer to give me other instructions to follow to provide it to you... )

From the comment in Chromium's source code about "--force-app-mode" I was under the impression that it could be used to install a PWA from the command line:

... but after trying a few different combinations of switches (such as app, app-id, app-url, profile-directory, etc) I wasn't able to do so - at least not with an URL referring to https://localhost:5001.

Unable to find an already saved 'Web capture' into Downloads

Hello Edge insiders,

2 days ago I already saved a 'Web capture' after choosing 'Save file' icon and after reading all past related Discussions found into this community my understanding was that I should have found a .JPEG (or .JPG) saved file into Edge settings configured Downloads folder (which for me indeed corresponds to OS Downloads folder). But unluckily there I found nothing.

Anyone has ideas where I could possibly find that (hopefully) already saved file ?

P.S. Since now I'm on Edge Enterprise v93.0.961.38 (Official build) (64-bit) I'm also wondering if I should better bug report this via a separate thread in this same community (just asking since I saw other sending bug reports this way, unless anyone might confirm me doing it via the Enterprise side of community would be more appropriate), or rather via 'Send feedback' icon (I've already sent a couple of them...), unless someone might even confirm it might even better for me to just update to next Edge Enterprise 94 'Beta 94 (Preview and supported)' (unsure if corresponding to an 'Extended Stable') or just its Beta channel equivalent version (if any exist) right before doing this via 'Send feedback' or any most proper side of this Edge community ...

The options are as follows

PWA - tabbed windows

I was enjoying several PWAs that on installation gave me the option to enable tabbed windows. Recently, though, this option is no longer available even though I have every PWA flag enabled. I found it particularly useful for sites like Outlook.com (Mail on one tab, Calendar on another, open messages on yet others, for example) and Reddit, where posts automatically open in new tabs. Using Reddit now, clicking on a post in the post list opens a new browser instance to display the post.

I know there was a problem with tab labels overlapping, but that was a minor irritation that didn't affect functionality.

Was the experiment judged a failure, even though it worked so well in some cases? Or have I missed a setting somewhere?

Site trigger IE compatibility mode on Edge

I have a question about IE Explorer Mode and it may have already been addressed, but I honestly couldn't find a definitive answer.

Issue:

I have a legacy webapp that still requires us to run in IE compatibility mode for it to render correctly but we have a group of people that need to access it outside of our intranet. This means that for these users we would not have been able to setup policies that would trigger compatibility mode on the specific site.

Question:

Is there a way for us to let edge know it should run in IE mode, from the webapp itself? Similar to how the deprecated " X-UA-Compatibility Meta Tag" instructed IE to run in a specific compatibility mode.

Since there have only been a couple of builds since last week, there’s not much to talk about that’s new in the product this week, but here’s everything we’ve got:

Added the ability to sync custom IE mode site lists between devices.
Re-enabled the improved browser profile sign-in dialog.
Fixed a crash on launch on Linux.
Fixed a crash when clicking the … menu in a PWA or website installed as an app.
Fixed a crash when watching videos.
Fixed a crash when using Smart Copy.
Fixed an issue where the browser crashes when switching to a different profile, including Guest or Kids mode.
Fixed an error when exporting a Collection to Word.
Fixed an issue on mobile where Collections sometimes don’t sync.

Known issues:

Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated. This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable. We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

this behavior is normal in other browsers, I don't why the edge just doesn't have it, and I had reported many times before in windows feedback.

Automation not working anymore with Edge 93 in non-interactive session

We are using the Edge web driver to run automated tests on a server. After updating to Edge 93 tests don't work like they did before. I was able to reproduce that Edge responds differently when run in a non-interactive session.

Steps to reproduce

Create C# project with Selenium.WebDriver package (4.0.0)

End scheduled task and set to "Run whether user is logged on or not" (enter password)

Run scheduled and run application ->error: The HTTP request to the remote WebDriver server for URL http://localhost:58123/session/f6c84ea3b35e3a53d074dca63867e87d/screenshot timed out after 60 seconds.

Taking a screenshot is one example of things that behave differently in a non-interactive session. In other cases the error was that an element was not clickable which it clearly is when seeing the browser on the screen.

I saw the same behavior with the latest Beta and Alpha release. With the previous 92 version as well as Chrome 93 there was no problem.

Extension developers can now track the in-market performance of their extension on the Partner Center. Analytics related to extensions is now publicly available, which has been a consistent top ask by our partners.

For each extension, one can track the extension’s performance under the ‘Analytics’ tab on the extension’s page. There are three types of data fields available for an extension, each with a set of various other filters such as distribution against region, OS, and language. The data fields available are: Weekly users, Daily installs, and Daily impressions.

If you are an extension developer, you can now track your extension’s performance data and work on improving their extension's reach to the users. If you would like to register as an Edge extension developer, you can use the guidance mentioned here.

'Configure the Share experience' via admx

In our enterprise we block access to apps like WhatsApp, Facebook or Gmail. In the new share menu (e.g. Edge Beta 94) these apps are preconfigured. We don't want to block the share menu via the 'configure the Share experience' in admx , it is great to quickly send working links around, but just want to remove some apps.

Any way to get that configured?

How can I remove Bing from Microsoft Edge Chromium? I want to remove it from following locations.

New Tab > search bar

Select word(s) > Right click > Search Bing in sidebar...

Also, I want to remove Copy link to highlight.

AddressBarMicrosoftSearchInBingProviderEnabled is set to False, and I already removed Bing from edge://settings/searchEngines but it is still coming.

DefaultSearchProviderContextMenuAccessAllowed "Allow default search provider context menu search access" I enabled this because if I disable this it removes sidebar plus right click search.

How can I totally remove Bing from Edge? I will implement solutions via MS Endpoint Manager, and if required via local group policies.

No one within the company is using Bing, because it is totally useless. We are using Google and DDG.

Microsoft Edge for Windows RT

As the topic title says, I wonder if there's any way or any plan the Edge devs could just bring Microsoft Edge (same as they did on Windows 7 and 8.1 despite they're x86 OSes) on Windows RT, as the Surface RT tablet (which I own, but infact it's about all WinRT tablets) is stuck with only IE11 which is a really outdated and buggy browser, that even YouTube and any other sites don't work properly anymore, so therefore browsing on it is a pain in the butt, and it's just storing dust because I can't use it too much.

I'm sorry if this might not be the place to post about this, but I saw similar topics on MS's community forum but none of them have an actual proper answer except saying that they're not supported anymore, but I, to be honest, don't believe that as 8.1's support "normally" would end on 2023, and still they receive updates. So this is why I'm posting here, in order to bring Edge's devs attention into this thing.

And if possible, I'd like this to be forwarded to the ones who made the Edge Browser for 7 and 8.1 (Pro), or atleast to get any possible contact with them or one of them, thank you.

visual issue: the search bar on the new tab page is inconsistent

Small visual issue but still should be fixed: on the new tab page, if you select "Focused" or Custom > turn off Background, the search button/icon in the search box gets this blue background behind it and it just looks really ugly and distracting (I put a red arrow pointing to it in the screenshot below). It should have the same nice clean, minimalist one you get with "Inspirational" or "Informational" modes! Please fix this, thank you :)

PDF reader Fails to Save Sensitive PDF Documents Due to Second Download Attempt

Summary

The PDF reader in Microsoft Edge does not handle sensitive PDF documents as expected. Microsoft Edge attempts to download the PDF document a second time when you try to save the PDF document to the desktop.

Use case

a website offers the PDF files with secure one-time use only URL, for example:

1. When the user opens the document from a website, the following HTTP response header/body is sent to Microsoft Edge:

2. The PDF reader in Microsoft Edge shows the PDF document directly in the browser UI (default behavior).

3. You click on the Save icon of the PDF viewer to save the payslip locally on the desktop.
4. For the 2nd time, Microsoft Edge *again* downloads the document with the same URL:
GET https://secure.example.com/my/site?fileId=866e0a76a298781c8f58c6e5cd34
--> The website does not allow this action as the URL is a one-time use only. Because of that, the HTTP response contains an HTML error page instead of the actual PDF document.

5. The PDF reader will still propose to Save the file with a filename of "site.html" but you'll not be saving the payslip. Instead, you're saving an HTML page.

Conclusion

It is not possible to save the PDF document to the desktop when using the PDF reader of Microsoft Edge, using the default setup of Microsoft Edge.

"Workaround" (because note really)

The only workaround for this is by *not* using the the internal PDF reader of Edge, but let Microsoft Edge download the PDF file instead:

Open Edge Settings and more (Alt+F)
Choose Cookies and site permissions in the left sidebar
In section “All permissions", click on PDF documents
Enable the option “Always download PDF files”

This is obviously not desirable as you won't be able to use the internal PDF viewer anymore.

Saving the PDF document triggers the second download attempt. However, if you try to print the document there is NO second download attempt. Both are processing the entire PDF document so why would these behave differently?
Mozilla Firefox ESR 78.x and 91.x using their internal PDF viewer does *NOT* show the same behavior. The PDF document is only downloaded once, and saving it from their internal PDF viewer saves the mypayslip.pdf file as expected.

Final Comments

In summary, why does Microsoft Edge tries to download the PDF document twice from the website? The entire document is already downloaded and available in the browser. Other browsers like Mozilla Firefox behave better then Microsoft Edge with exactly the same HTTP response headers.

I'd love to hear whether the behavior of PDF reader in Microsoft Edge is expected or not. Is this in accordance to the RFC specifications for the given HTTP response headers? Secondly, are there any changes to the HTTP response headers that could avoid the 2nd download attempt, while keeping the HTTP header "Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, max-age=0" part of the HTTP response header?

にしたら、ちゃんとnomergeが効いたことを確認しましたが、

ドキュメントから解釈すると、V93　Stable版以降だと、

--enable-features=msAllowNoMergeIEMode　の設定が必要なくなるとの理解ですが、実際この設定を外すと、nomergeが効かなくなりました。

利用したV93 Stable版は　93.0.961.38　です。みなさんがこのV93 Stable版で成功しましたか？

Hi there Guys,

I've been using Edge Dev build for long time now, mostly since Edge switched to chromium. I'm very broadly to say that Microsoft Edge is one of the well builds, equipped with productivity features and well-integrated into Microsoft services but one topic that Edge team has always been worked on but never get it right. The topic is Edge is a very heavy on resources and not well optimized from newer computers to older computers.

The problem I'm seeing on my computer and on other computers when using Edge is with high utilization of RAM and CPU. On my computer, I've a two sperate accounts setups my personal and my college account. I mostly use my personal account and only open when working on my college work. On my personal account, I usually have 7 to 9 tabs open and most of the tabs are suspended from (Save Resources feature) so, two to four tabs active. On college side, I mostly have two to five tabs. With that I've three extensions' installed which are iCloud Keychain, LastPass and recently installed Kaspersky Protection. The problem I've experience with Edge is I was watching a YouTube video and another tab I was reading a article about the YouTube video playing in background. When scrolling on article and switching between tabs I was experiencing a very heavy undelightful performance. When monitoring the Task Manager, I saw Edge high peak of CPU utilization near 68+ Edge processes running and 3.1GB + more Memory Usage. Just to clear with everyone on I'm seeing this same or similar story on Stable, Beta and Dev channel of Edge. I'm seeing more of it on stable release where Edge is draining out more of resources utilization which leads to issues like high temps and fan crank to max on laptops and desktops. Please review the screenshot I've attached below for reference.

I'm running a Dev Edge on a very old or I would say outdated Dell OptiPlex tower running 2nd Gen Intel core i5-2500 with 16GB Memory and 128GB SSD. Before anyone goes to comments saying running very outdated specs and which result to bottle neck the performance. Hear me out guys despite even running on very outdated Intel architecture, the experience of running Windows 10 and most modern apps runs very well and very efficiently. Due to knowledge of being computer repair expert, I've optimized the Windows 10 experience to work well on my computer but Edge is always the one seeing suffer from lost performance and high utilization as specially RAM and CPU. Another example of this scenario is that my brother who just recently joined a company that is now working from home. The company sent a business computer for usage and required to use Edge by default so, since he started working I'm constantly hearing loud fan noise, heating, battery draining, and memory utilization. By the way he's using stable release of Edge just like everyone else. From this scenario might get an idea on how bad Edge has been optimize and what my brother have to put up with. Another point shocking part of it is testing on Windows 11, Edge is poorly optimize. I'm just seeing lots of stutters, and high utilization.

I've submitted feedback many times in the past but Edge team is not focusing so much on stability and balance performance. This is why, in recently released Ver 95 on Dev channel, notice a new feature available (Efficiency Mode), this tells me that the team is not more focus toward overall bring balance performance but instead focus on adding more and more features which is leads into confusion UI, lot's of buttons and hidden menus over menus.

I know Microsoft is pushing Edge's built in Reader which makes sense, but we have certain sites that need to use a external PDF reader (older sites no way around it). Whereas we have some newer sites that just wont work if we don't have it set as using the built in reader.

It would be nice if that option would be available.

ie. All Sites download and open PDF's using built in reader

exceptions based on site and they open external.

Edge Canary 95.0.1003.0 spawning multiple new Windows

With today's update to Edge Canary 95.0.1003.0 it is spawning multiple new Windows at start up and constantly thereafter after some time delay.

Effectively unusable.

This is even a worse problem than I thought. Now if I close Edge Canary and open Stable, Canary is automatically opening and spawning new windows.

Duplicate page loads on Edge Only

I have a simple web page written in Coldfusion running Lucee. It reads a table and loops through and charges orders needing it. Been running for years. Started to have a problem when I moved from Firefox to Edge where it would duplicate charges. I put in HTML messages and noticed no duplication of messages but still have duplicate charges.. I found a work around setting a duplicate check timeout with my credit card authorizer.

Does not happen on Firefox at all.

Does not happen on Chrome at all.

Does not happen on Edge IF I go into Dev Tools (F12) and disable cache in Network tab.

Can't move a tab to certain profiles

Using Edge Dev 95.0.997.1 64-bit with 4 profiles currently. Selecting "Move tab to" works as expected when selecting the first or second profile in the list as the target. However, selecting the third or fourth profile in the list will also move the tab to either the first or second profile, never to the third or fourth.

Has anyone else seen this?

I can provide a gif from my repro or some logs (if you tell me what would help) if needed.

When you said sync tabs I expected to be able to move from one computer to another open my browser and see the exact same tabs, in their groups all organize as I left them...but no for some reason they are hidden away, unorganized under History....why? I use all your great features like multiple profiles for work and home (and others), and have different sets of tabs in them, I love the vertical tab layout and the grouping and pinning....this is all unbelievably useful and has make browsing so much more easy and fun. Please sync tabs properly and not just hide them away.

I have a two site, say site www.site1.com and www.site2.com.

the way how it works is.

I login into first site using my login username and password. After successful login, the site will open a list of links. On one of the links is the www.site2.com (legacy app). Clicking on this will open the second site in a new tab.

With the IE browser coming to an End soon. we are forced to use Edge and IE mode.

I have set www.site1.com to open in Edge mode and www.site2.com in Edge-IE mode. I have followed the instructions give in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode-sitelist and tried https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode-add-guidance-cookieshare#how-cookie-sharing-works

It seems there is session is not shared between two mode.

Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 95.0.997.1 to the Dev channel. That’s right, it’s already time for 95! Because of that, look for version 94 to be coming to Beta soon. Now for what’s new this week:

Added features:

Added the ability to use the keyboard keys to ink on PDFs and web captures.
Enabled by default the ability to sync payment cards by uploading payment card data filled in webpages to a Microsoft account.

Improved reliability:

Fixed an issue where interacting with autofill popups sometimes crashes the browser.
Fixed a crash when dragging tabs between windows.
Fixed a tab crash.
Fixed a crash when closing tabs that contain Office documents.
Fixed a crash when editing saved passwords in Settings.
Fixed a crash on Mac when the management policy to Force Sign In is provisioned.
Mobile issues:
- Fixed a crash when organizing favorites.
- Fixed a crash when deleting a favorite.
- Fixed a crash on launch.
- Fixed a crash when signing out of the browser.
- Fixed an issue where the browser fails to open.
- Fixed a hang when navigating to malicious sites that are blocked by SmartScreen.
Fixed an issue where WebView2 apps sometimes crash soon after launching (Issue 1678).

Changed behavior:

Fixed an issue where searching Settings causes it to go blank.
Fixed an issue where some Settings can’t be searched for.
Fixed an issue where profiles get signed out or duplicated after updating the browser.
Fixed an issue where a custom scale when printing isn’t retained between prints.
Fixed an issue where the option to change a password in Password Settings doesn’t do anything.
Fixed an issue where Rebates sometimes fail to be applied.
Fixed an issue where Rebates sometimes fail with an error.
Fixed an issue where Coupons sometimes aren’t found when they should be.
Fixed an issue where the Web Widget doesn’t display properly.
Fixed an issue where the Web Widget is missing some UI.
Fixed an issue where MHT files sometimes don’t render properly.
Mobile issues:
- Fixed an issue where the preference for desktop vs. mobile sites is sometimes reset after installing an update.
- Fixed an issue where signing into the browser sometimes fails for work and school accounts.
- Fixed an issue where navigating to certain websites takes an inordinate amount of time.
WebView2 issues:
- Fixed an issue where a white flash sometimes appears when loading dark content (Issue 1621).
- Fixed an issue where more DLLs than necessary are sometimes added to projects (Issue 709).
- Fixed an issue where the wrong certificate is sometimes selected from the ClientCertificateRequested event (Issue 1666).
- Fixed an issue where a WebView object is sometimes not defined properly (Issue 1144).
- Fixed an issue where minimizing a WebView2 application sets focus incorrectly (Issue 238).
- Fixed an issue with error handling.

Known issues:

Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated. This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable. We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

And since 94 is coming to Beta, that also means 93 is moving to Stable soon too!

Problems accessing sites except in InPrivate mode

I started using Edge a couple of months ago and have recently discovered that there are a couple of websites that I can only access when in InPrivate mode. They are different types of sites:

- Two of our internal Sharepoint sites only show me the backend of the site (with the components/folders), and I don't own those sites. Other Sharepoint sites I can access fine.

- Our company recognition site (not on Sharepoint). It just spins like it is trying to log me in.

- Our Concur travel and expense site. I can do my expenses and get to the travel section, but when I try to find flights, it gives me an error.

For all of these cases, they work just fine in InPrivate and in Chrome. Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks!

Sign into Microsoft Partner Center using GitHub

We are happy to announce that you can now sign-in to Partner Center using GitHub to publish extensions to Microsoft Edge Add-ons. This sign-in option will allow you to use your GitHub credentials to register for the Microsoft Edge program and save you the additional step of creating a new MSA exclusively for publishing Microsoft Edge extensions.

Signing with GitHub requires you to perform a few simple steps. Visit Microsoft Edge program on Partner Center and choose at the bottom of the page to view alternative sign in options.

Then select ‘Sign-in with GitHub’ and enter your GitHub account credentials that you want to use and follow the steps.

Microsoft will link your GitHub account to a new MSA, if not already linked. After your account is linked, you will be ready to use your GitHub credentials to register for Microsoft Edge program to submit extensions.

Please note that you can only use your personal GitHub account to sign-in to Partner Center. For more information on the sign-in process, navigate to Publish Microsoft Edge extensions by using a GitHub account. To help manage Microsoft Edge extensions, you can add more users to an existing Partner Center account by associating an Active Azure Directory tenant with your account on Partner Center.

What is the code to run IE in Edge?

We have been developing an Excel/VBA program for over 20 years and it is up to 2000 lines of code and an extensive use of Excel spread sheet. Now that Edge has taken over IE. the our program no longer works. The need is to invoke a browser and set a URL. After one hour, the browser is to close and a new browser session will open with another URL. This has to be done without any manual intervention, not even a click.

The code has been working very well in IE but now that Edge has taken control, the code opens a new tab for each URL presented on the hour but the tab remains open. On the second hour, two URL/tabs are playing and for each subsequent hour, another URL/tab will be playing. At the moment, I have to be here on the hour to close the old tab(s). Since the program runs for 24 hours, my closing tabs manually is not an option. It has to be automated.

Here are the key commands I am using:

To open the browser from one sub:

What is the new Edge code to open a browser for each hour and to close it after each hour. Also acceptable would be if there is code to open and close tabs.

I have about 400 members of the community who benefit from the output of this program so it is no trivial matter.

DNS over HTTPs is set up and working prooved by Edge Logging

Problem:

we have a webpage that is available from Public DNS but when opened from internal network it needs to resolve with internal AD DNS.

Examples / Usecases:

scenario 1:

User opens Edge

opens portal.contoso.com from external network

Portal.contoso.com resolves to the public DNS entry of contoso.com via DNS over HTTPS using Cloudflare or any other provider specified.

expected behaviour: as above (by design)

scenario 2:

User opens Edge

opens portal.contoso.com from internal network

Portal.contoso.com resolves to the public DNS entry of contoso.com via DNS over HTTPS using Cloudflare or any other provider specified.

expected behaviour: as above (by design)

required behaviour:

portal.contoso.com should resolve over local DNS (AD DNS)

Feature Request:

We need a GPO control to specify that portal.contoso.com should first resolve to local DNS (AD DNS).

Means a list object, json or csv in ADMX.

Afaik there is no ability to do so. Other products like Firefox is reportingly able to specify exclusions.

Are there other ideas how to solve this, or is this a FR that is already in milestone or backlog?

Is Edge ever going to have unlimited history? This is one of the reasons I cannot use Edge as my main daily browser.

There is even a single-person-maintained public patch for it, also Vivaldi has the feature, so clearly it is technically doable and maintaneable.

What prevents Microsoft from doing it as well?

Hide Tabs

I am currently using vertical tabs but want to hide the tabs and use keyboard shortcuts to navigate between tabs. Like the bookmarks which toggle visibility with Ctrl+Shift+B or just just add a new option on vertical tab icon to hide tabs in addition to the existing toggle between horizontal and vertical.

All the bright icons can get distracting

I think when the user is in a new tab regardless of whether the cursor is in the address bar (omnibox) or in the search box, as soon as the user starts typing something it should automatically go to these search components.
This would make the search faster as it would eliminate a step where you have to first click on one of these components and only then type something to be searched.

overlay scrollbars are the best thing in the universe

If you like dark mode, you simply have to enable the new overlay scrollbars. Very few websites support dark scrollbars in Chromium browsers (the only websites I've come across are github and appleinsider.com), so you have these bright grey scrollbars on the screen at all times and it's very ugly and distracting. Overlay scrollbars fix this! Also, if you have a smaller laptop, you are gaining a scrollbars width worth of real estate back, which is important if you're on something like a surface go tablet (which is what I'm typing on right now).

Hi -

We have iPads configured as Multi-app Kiosk. There is no User attached to the iPad. I need to add Microsoft Edge app to the Kiosk. However, Mgt wants to only allow 1 url of https://www.tracegains.net/

to be access in MS Edge App. They do not want users to be able to browse other sites in MS Edge.

I tried Application configuration for EDGE. But did not work. From my reading, it seems like to lock down Edge you have to have User affinity and MAM. MAM policies cannot be applied to devices.

Do know if there is a way to lock down MS Edge to only allow 1 site without user affinity?

I am Windows Insider since 2015 and Office365 for this reason, to have a more realistic way to handle vital functionality, deserves a special attention.
