Windows + Intune Office Hours at Microsoft Technical Takeoff
Event details
We're wrapping up the Microsoft Technical Takeoff with answering any final questions you might have about managing the Windows devices used by remote, onsite, and hybrid workers across your organization, and keeping those devices up to date effectively! Get tips on rolling out Windows 11 across your organization! Learn how to cloud attach your on-premises workloads!
We will have a broad group of product experts, servicing experts, and engineers representing Windows, Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager, security, public sector, FastTrack, and more. And, for your continued questions, join us every third Thursday for Windows Office Hours here on the Tech Community.
This session is part of the Microsoft Technical Takeoff: Windows + Intune. Add it to your calendar, RSVP for event reminders, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event. |

- treestryderSteel ContributorOn the Windows 365 Shift-Worker licensing topic: Can you speak to the pros and cons of using Windows 365 Shift-Worker licenses versus a pooled or shared VM?
- Tony ChaCopper ContributorWhat things we have to pay attention for those "Share Machine"? e.g. A laptop use by the morning shift worker, and the evening shift worker use the same laptop.
- gijapon_anthony1982Copper Contributoris intune free? never been use it before.

Start here with basic information about Intune: Microsoft Intune—Endpoint Management | Microsoft Security
There are links to pricing information on that page.- Amy_MontourMicrosoft
In addition to Dave's response, here is a link showing which licenses include Intune: Licenses available for Microsoft Intune | Microsoft Learn.

[User profile with regional characters (like c:\users\NoëlCoward)] It gets created based on user's identity in Azure AD and hence it will be created with the whatever the name user has in Azure AD, this gives us a lot of problems with running apps (especially development) How to avoid this without being forced to have system locale other than EN?
- LeonShapiroCopper ContributorKiosk mode configuration is Intune is very limited. This is especially true if you want to do auto-login with AAD credentials. We need this to use SSO for applications host either on prem or SaaS. We are passwordless environment so user can not just enter credentials. This is preventing us from fully moving to Intune. Are there any plans to enable more functionality for kiosk devices?
- Hung_DangMicrosoftHi, Leon. If you're referring to Windows Autopilot self-deploying mode into kiosk, the reason we don't auto-login to Windows with a user AAD cred. The reason is security; i.e., it's highly risky to have a self-deploying device that logs into Windows with a user AAD account. (The device could be stolen, for instance.) The user account could be restricted as much as possible by the customer, but all it takes is one incorrectly-configured account to cause a bad situation for the customer.

WUfB - We encourage users to shut off computer when not working (or at the very least sleep). Doesn't Active Hours settings ensure computers will never get updated until the deadline hits? I haven't confirmed this with testing yet because testing all WUfB settings to grok their functionality is fairly time consuming. A blog with pictures and clear explanations of all settings would help.
- ZebulonSmithIron ContributorAlso relevant when there's an always-on VPN in play that requires user authentication to connect. There's some high-security environments out there where that's a requirement and adding an exception to download updates isn't an option.
- ESJeffLBrass ContributorI like the concept of Cloud PC but for shift work on-site how do you offset the cost of having to manage the host and the cloud pc, very expensive solution. What am I missing?

Why does Microsoft want to keep ingesting Servers into Intune from the Defender for Cloud and Endpoint integration when Intune cannot support (remediate) them? These capabilities will provide visibility and be more for reports. It seems like organizations will pivot between Windows Admin Center/Automanage/Update Management but its not going to touch more of the recommendations/best practices that are in Defender for Cloud such as "Machines should be configured securely" and "Machines should have vulnerability findings resolved". These recommendations really call our for Config Manager. Is there a roadmap or objective for servers to be added into a Intune for Servers or will customers need to keep Configmgr in place? Love the new capabilities that W365 offers for Cloud PC regardless. 🙂
- SETI-PERF2023Occasional ReaderWe have developed an API (logic app) which receives as input parameter a user workstation number We want the API to be able to: -Open Microsoft Word (or other program) on an opened session on the computer station of the same user. -Run a script with user credentials What is the best way to proceed please?
