Tab settings are paragraph formatting, not document formatting.
If you change them in one paragraph, they do NOT change elsewhere in the document. If you are inside a paragraph or at the end of a paragraph you've modified and press Enter, the change applies in the new paragraph.
Consider modifying the style applied to the paragraph instead of the paragraph.

When you modify a style, you can check the option to also have the change apply in NEW documents based on the template.

For some reason, my version of Office Professional Plus 2021 got corrupted twice. As a result, the normal tab functions didn't work. Microsoft support reinstalled it but the help menus stopped working and the tab problems I listed came up. I did a Microsoft repair on my own and now everything works fine.
The articles you sent me on Styles were very helpful. I never had used styles before and usually set my titles and headings individually but now see the advantage of using styles for a global approach. Thank you.
