TOC RD generating page 1 instead of correct page numbers
I am using Word Version 2407 (Build 17830.20084) with Office 365 Apps for Business. For years, we have created TOCs pulling from multiple files using the TOC RD field. However, now instead of the correct page numbers, it shows 1 (or occasionally the first page number of one of the files). This first started on someone else's machine and until now, I was able to successfully generate a correct TOC for them. This is happening with multiple documents. We've tried manipulating the page number and TOC fields, safe mode, replacing normal.dotm, and repairing the Office install. Note that the TOC works just fine on an individual document (i.e., when not using RD). Any ideas?

Note that version 2407 hasn't been officially released yet, as far as I know. If you are running an insider or preview version of Office, you may want to report in one of the Insider forums as well.
- solovyeiCopper ContributorI actually did that as well. I left no stone unturned on this one, including speaking with Microsoft Support. I do not believe we are running an insider/preview version of Office; we just get automatic updates pushed to us via Microsoft (i.e., we don't have to wait for our IT department to push them to us). Not sure why we have Build 2407 if it isn't technically released.
Thanks for the update.
Office versions are certainly confusing.
The support article at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/current-channel?redirectSourcePath=%252farticle%252f95c8d81d-08ba-42c1-914f-bca4603e1426 lists 2406 as the most recent one. This is the one I have.
Version 2407 is listed as "Current Channel (Preview)"; see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-current-channel-preview.

Having the exact same issues with Word 16. Looking for solutions. Let me know if you've found any fixes. We started having the problem about the same time, as well. solovyei
- solovyeiCopper ContributorI'm afraid we've not found any useful workaround. For now, we're having to combine smaller documents into a single document (as the TOCs generate just fine for single documents). Larger ones. Larger documents require manual options of one sort or another. Definitely not efficient.
- mramirez1330Copper ContributorThe work around we've been using it to create a TOC at the end of each section then copy and paste into a new document that is only a TOC. Manually figuring out page numbers on documents that are hundreds of pages was too time consuming. This will capture table numbers, exhibits, figures, etc. until we can get back to business as usual. Still tedious but beats manually adding the page numbers.

Charles_Kenyon Thank you. I see that other than reporting the same bug, nothing was resolved for that person either. In both cases, we have been using RD for a long time and it suddenly stopped working—this isn’t a case of not knowing how to use the field. Note that I spoke with MS Support and they couldn’t seem to replicate the problem nor could they offer up a solution. Hopefully MS will get around to fixing this bug. Assuming they can figure out what’s going on.

My check shows the macro by Jonathan West in my article gets a TOC with continuous page numbering.

Should this be necessary? No.
But, it may get you the document you need now rather than when Microsoft gets around to fixing this.
