PC Doesn't Meet Windows 11 System Requirement - i7 6700HQ
Hi team,
I just want to provide a feedback about the disappointment that my computer cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. I've been a big fan and supporter of Microsoft in the past 14 years ever since I had a PC and now I feel I am left out.
It is a powerful gaming Alienware laptop I bought 4 years ago and it is still functioning very well. I have Visual Studio, SQL Server, Docker and many other development tools installed and it's been very productive. I feel so disappointed that I cannot upgrade it to Window 11 purely because my CPU is Intel 7th gen (i7 6700HQ).
Thus I'm appealing you to consider changing the minimum requirement for Windows 11.

Upgrading an operating system can mean better features, enhanced security, and ongoing support from Microsoft. It’s disheartening to see a capable machine being left behind due to arbitrary hardware thresholds when in reality, it's still delivering excellent performance.

I've updated my laptop too many times and nothings promising- NguyenaisBronze Contributor
Intel 6th Gen CPU is not supported according to the system requirement.

The why I run W11 on my ROG with i7 6th gen? I performed a clean install from USB drive created with Media Creation Tool and the laptop works perfect updates, drivers, etc. It is not the only laptop with the 6th gen i7 were I installed W11, the installation steps were the same as for W10 also used the same license on W11. I performed the installation on 4 laptops with the i7 6th gen CPU and they are working better with W11 than with W10. Microsoft released the list with the supported CPU but they doesn't tell you can't try to install W11 on unsupported CPU.

I am in the same boat with my ASUS GL752VW not meeting Windows 11 system requirements. This makes no sense as it would not take much to make this processor run windows 11 as all other parameters are met. It's not right junking a perfectly good laptop due to this decision made by Microsoft / ASUS. Especially in this age of consumer expenses, cost of living and trying to avoid making more waste for the world. I would appreciate your assistance in making these laptops compatible for myself and all participants in this posting. Sincerely Leighton Kemptangr2035

Kemp, I completely agree with you. A few years ago, I purchased a large and powerful Dell XPS desktop so that it could be easily added to and upgraded. Never did I imagine that it an update to Windows would make it obsolete.
I am very disappointed. Kent

I've been in software QC over 30 yrs, BEFORE Win3.1, (Win for Workgroups and OS2 anyone!?). I think it's lame that M$ excludes a certain processor that EXCEEDS the minimum requirements because their software blows up, fix the SOFTWARE d@mmit! Don't penalize the consumer for owning an ROG/gaming machine! "Grandma" wants Win11 so she can support the kiddos who can't install it properly (and run some scripts to remove the bloatware) or operate it!!!!

I purchased a computer with a high end processor so that it would better stand the test of time. As other's have said, 'My processor far exceeds the minimum requirements, but it's the MS software that can't play well with the computers. Thank you Jill

I am having the same issue with my ASUS ROG GL752VW laptop. It has a Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU and I am getting the same message. Is it possible to upgrade this or can they fix that?
- stm2787Copper ContributorHi, i also have same cpu, i bought laptop msi gp62 6qf in 2017, it works very well, i think microsoft should allow install win11
- xXchingXxBrass ContributorMicrosoft does allow to install with the 6700hq. However you have to download the media creation tool and create an install USB. Then install as a clean install not upgrade. "Make sure to backup your data first since this is not an upgrade rather a clean install"!
- fabaraxCopper ContributorI have the same problem. Asus Rog with Intel 6700HQ, but this processor is listed as approved in the Microsoft page, under Windows 21H2 list.
- SayedRedaBrass ContributorThe important question now is.. Will Microsoft listen to all of our complaints and fix this crazy issue? Or they will totally ignore us?
- BrunoFernandesCopper Contributor
I have the same issue. Will Microsoft do something to solve this?
- Stephen_de_WitCopper ContributorWill Microsoft do anything, who knows? Microsoft has not disclosed what the issue is, so we cannot speculate whether there will be a solution. Maybe it is too complex for us to understand 😉 Their priority is simplifying the UI to the point where functionality is optimized for Surface owners and those with accessibility issues.
- jonaserickCopper ContributorI have the same problem with my asus laptop, everything perfect for Windows 11, except the processor.
