How to transfer files from PC to PC with Windows 11/10?
Build a new Windows 11 PC and need some help figuring out how to transfer files from one PC to another. I have important documents, photos, and other files that I'd like to move to my new computer, but I'm not sure what the easiest and safest methods are.
Could someone please explain simple method on how to transfer files from pc to pc? I'd prefer methods that don’t require advanced technical knowledge or expensive software. If there are step-by-step instructions or tools that Microsoft recommends, that would be great!
For large amount of files or the entire computer, you'd better using a dedicated app for doing this. It will save time and the whole task will be done automatically. You can follow the tip in this guide to complete the task in an easy way: https://www.thenextweeb.com/transfer-files-from-pc-to-pc

Transferring files from PC to PC using Nearby Sharing can be a breeze, but it’s not without its downsides. I've had my share of experiences where it just didn't work out as smoothly as I'd hoped. The following are the disadvantages of using nearby sharing for PC-to-PC file transfer:
- Distance Limitations: The distance between the two PCs has to be relatively small, ideally within 10-15 feet (3-4.5 meters). If you're transferring files from PC to PC across rooms or floors, it might not work.
- Security Concerns: When using Nearby Sharing, the file transfer is initiated by the old PC and accepted by the new PC. However, if you're transferring sensitive files, you might be concerned about security. Make sure you're transferring to a trusted device.
- Limited File System Access: When transferring files from PC to PC using Nearby Sharing, you might not have full access to the file system of the old PC. This can be frustrating if you need to navigate through folders or access specific files.
Workarounds and Alternative Methods:
Cloud Services: Consider using cloud services like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive to transfer your files. These services allow you to upload your files and then download them on the new PC.
USB Transfer: If you have a USB drive handy, you can transfer files by copying them from the old PC to the new one via USB.
Windows File Transfer Wizaard: You can use the Windows File Transfer Wizaard to transfer files from PC to PC. This method is more reliable and allows for more control over the transfer process. - BarbarankIron Contributor

Transferring files from PC to PC is usually pretty straightforward, but there are some downsides to the methods you've mentioned, especially when it comes to using a USB drive or a local network transfer in Windows 10/11. Here's a breakdown, mixed with a sprinkle of personal experience and some practical tips:
Disadvantages of using USB flash drive or external hard drive to transfer files from PC to PC:
- Limited Capacity: If you have a ton of files (like that 2.7 TB you've got), you might need multiple USB drives or a really big external hard drive. Trust me, it's a hassle to keep switching drives.
- Transfer Speed: Depending on the type of USB drive you have, transferring large files can take a while. Going from a slow USB 2.0 drive to a faster USB 3.0 could make a big difference, but if you’re using older hardware, you might find yourself waiting around.
- Physical Error: There’s always that chance of losing the USB drive. I mean, I’ve misplaced USB drives before, and the thought of losing important files is nerve-wracking!
- File System Compatibility: If you’ve got an older PC, the file system on your USB might not be compatible (like FAT32). This could mess things up, especially if your files are over 4GB.
