Private vs Public networks when granting permission to a specific app?
Which option is better?
- Philip_GoetzCopper ContributorJust allow it so that you can run the app!
- antijansonCopper ContributorIf you're using a public Wi-Fi network or a network you don't trust, it's recommended to choose "Public" to prevent any potential security risks.
If you're using a private network at home or work, you can choose "Private" if the app requires direct access to local resources or needs to communicate with your device directly. - CamiloseCopper ContributorGranting an app permission on a public network should be done with caution, as public networks are less secure and more susceptible to attacks. In most cases, it's advisable to limit app permissions on public networks to prevent unauthorized access or data breaches.
- AmiriooimBrass ContributorIt depends on what kind of app you are using. For well known apps, public networks is more convenient.
- KrisokalomoBrass ContributorIn most cases, the public network is better as it won't bring any potential issues, especially for the permission control.
- GeraldoinmsCopper ContributorI always go with Public network and no problem with it.
- Arya66Copper ContributorPrivate networks are typically secure environments such as home, office, or corporate networks. They usually require authentication to access and are generally protected by routers and firewalls.

Private networks are designed for specific groups of users, provide a high level of security through firewalls and encryption measures, are suitable for handling sensitive information, and allow users to access and configure local resources more freely. In contrast, public networks are open to the general public and are relatively less secure and vulnerable to cyber threats. When using public networks, users need to be more careful and take additional measures such as using VPNs, checking the security of applications, restricting the granting of privileges, and using network security tools to protect personal information and data. Overall, private networks provide a more secure and controlled environment, while public networks require users to take more precautions to ensure security. - AmyraxvCopper ContributorIf security is a top concern, especially on a public network, it’s safer to deny access to apps that could unnecessarily expose your device. On a private network, you can usually grant access without much worry if you trust the app.
- JoshuaHarveyCopper ContributorI think this is a misinterpretation: The text means „this PC will be in a private/public network“. So if this PC is configured as a part in a public network the security means will be set high, while if it is part of a private network the walls can be lowered.
