More comfortable with a Windows 10 legacy design
How much I missed this design. Good old days with security nightmare XP skinned as Vista...
- yeah, I miss the old style as well. The new Win 11 UI is completely different
- If you really want to relive those days, consider running Windows XP or Vista in a virtual machine. You can even run your old favorite programs in their native environments. Just remember to be careful about security since those systems aren't getting updates anymore!
1.Use Classic Shell or Open-Shell: These third-party applications allow you to customize the Start Menu to resemble previous Windows versions. You can choose a more traditional layout, including the classic style Start Menu with hierarchical menus.
2. Taskbar Customization:
Taskbar Settings: Right-click on the taskbar and choose "Taskbar settings." Here, you can adjust options like combining taskbar buttons, hiding the taskbar, and changing the taskbar's appearance.
Enable Small Taskbar Buttons: In the taskbar settings, toggle on “Use small taskbar buttons” for a more compact look.
3. Control Panel vs. Settings App:
Use Control Panel: You can still access the classic Control Panel for many settings that were available in older versions. You can create a shortcut for the Control Panel on your desktop for easy access.- The Windows 11 UI is pretty good too. The legacy Windows 10 UI looks a bit out of date.
- In fact, I think Vista style is more beautiful!
- The start menu in XP was so intuitive and customizable. Having those big, friendly icons felt just right, and you could access things quickly without all the bells and whistles of modern designs.
- You can adjust settings for fonts and icon sizes through the Display settings in Windows 10. Changing the default font to something like Tahoma or MS Sans Serif can give you a more classic vibe.
The classic teal and green color scheme with the simple taskbar and icons—what a change that was from previous versions! XP also had that iconic start menu that everyone loved (and perhaps still does).
Any way to apply this theme on Win11?
Windows 10 was like a cozy blanket. You had the Start menu that was a mix of the classic Windows 7 and the tile-inspired Windows 8, but it managed to balance everything nicely. You could still right-click for the good ol’ context menu, and it felt intuitive, unlike some of the newer designs. Plus, the taskbar was just right—not too cluttered, but functional enough to keep everything you needed at your fingertips.
