How to dwindling Free Space Windows 10?

My Windows 10 PC keeps losing free disk space even though I am not downloading or installing anything new. The available space on my C drive slowly drops by several gigabytes over the course of a day, and I have already run Disk Cleanup and deleted temporary files but the space keeps disappearing. When I use a disk space analyzer I can see that a system folder like WinSxS or SoftwareDistribution keeps growing in size.

I suspect Windows Update might be downloading the same failed update repeatedly in the background which would explain both the dwindling space and the separate issue where a particular update has failed to install for the second time in a row.

Has anyone else seen this pattern and found a way to stop the space from vanishing while also fixing the stuck Windows Update that keeps redownloading itself over and over again without having to disable updates completely or reinstall the entire operating system from scratch?
