Cumulative update KB5001391 fails to Install
Hello Guys ! A expected ONCE AGAIN Microsoft Cumulative update KB5001391 fails to install on #Windows 20H2 , as this has been the 3rd failed update like previously two KB5000842 and KB5001330. Am I the alone on this planet ? The error message I have received is 0x800f0922. I got a new Laptop HP 8th generation. What is happening inside Microsoft these days ?

0 files or directoriesI also encountered with 0x800f0922 when installing KB5003173 (or may 2021 update) and last 3 cumulative updates!
In my case it was related to HTTP service. HTTP service wont start, it will show something like this:
C:/User/User>net start http Error 2: System cannot find file specified.I gone through CBS logs, and find this error log!

[1] - Reinstall Edge if you have uninstalled it
Some user in reddit stated the reinstallation edge solved it, I use Edge as primary, therefore it doesnt solved for me!
[2] - Restore HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP and HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\HTTP
It worked for me!! Immediately after restoration (restored from an old ISO I had), the HTTP service now starts fine, no more Error 2. tried to update again. voila! it install fine as before!
Sabby_ Hi Dear ! Well after 3 back to back failed attempts Finally I got installed KB5003173 19042.985 without any issue. It went smooth and the PC is doing well now.....BUT BEFORE THAT
I had to install 3 fresh Installations on my laptop in order to get KB5000842 , KB5001330 and KB5001391.
Before KB5003173 my last build was 19042.964 and it helped me to get build 19042.985installed. I believe MS still have got issues with it's OS.
Now back to Edge. Edge 1st of all can't be uninstalled...No way. Yes it is possible to reset the application
Just make one more attempt and see how it goes but I see no help because I had to make dozen attempts and every times Installation west UNSUCCESSFUL.

I think your problems stemmed precisely from vulnerabilities and the inability to provide a common Windows environment, if it were correct there would be no problems, Thank you very much .
- The only way i found, is to install with NTlite...it works well

Buying an additional license as you suggest- only to install the optional windows 10 preview update is not needed!
If your computer for some reason does not provide a full installation environment then attempts using system tools should be effective - if it does not work, Then I do not see the need to install external programs that provide independent configuration!
- My Windows 10 Version is 20H2 or biuld 19042. I have tried installing both KB5001330 and KB5001391 (error code 0x80073712) several times and both failed. Before trying to downl;oad and install I emptied the Windows SoftwareDistribution folder as many suggested by opening Command Prompt as administrator, enter the following commands and hitting Enter after each one:
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
Rename C:\WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver- Amongst other problems I have when running sfc /scannow to repair corrupt files I got “Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation” and DISM I got "The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table despite after running chkdsk c: /r /f.
- This update gave me bsod boot loop error 0xc000021a. Spent hours fixing it… now i just leave it uninstalled.
Go to windows update catalog (https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=windows%2010) and download KB5001391. Install it manually.

A good idea for advanced users, if previous automatic updates failed - then I do not recommend downloading and installing manually!
Mark updates as necessary or additional in a comprehensible manner - Microsoft Tech Community
Such a designation I think it would be very helpful and at the same time necessary, or additional information given before downloading the Windows 10 Update to understand how important the update is and what the temporary suspension of the installation will mean! Ever since KB5000842 printing has not worked correctly for us especially when printing PDFs, with KB5001330 breaking Microsoft's own 'Microsoft Print to PDF' and a ton of HP printer drivers resulting in 0x800f0922 error if you try to reinstall them. Only solutions we've found if you are already on Windows 20H2/2004 with all updates installed is to uninstall KB5001391, reboot, uninstall KB5001330 (not visible unless you remove KB5001391 first), reboot, remove 'Microsoft Print to PDF' from program and features/turn features on and off, then add it again (the print spooler is now working correct), install KB5001649 (to fix PDF's missing headings and logos caused by KB5000842), then hide update KB5001330 to prevent it from being installed by Windows Update again. Whilst this does not get KB5001330 and KB5001391 installed, it did at least get our printing services running again, so might help others.
- Having the same issue on a Surface Book 2. Disappointing to have an MS device unable to install this update.
- Not only this one KB5001391 but previous two had been the pain as well KB 5000842 and KB5001330
On a sidenote, if it does succeed to install:
On my rig (amd 3700x and rtx 2080 super) it causes screenflickering ingame.Do note that i did update to the latest NVidia display driver at the time of update.
Uninstalled KB5001391 and all is well again.

Hi, happy to report that for me this issue is now resolved. I contacted MS support via the "Get Help" link in the window where you check your updates.
They told me to download and run the upgrade tool you can find here: Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
You need to upgrade your windows 10 to windows 10... Weird, but I must admit that it solved my issue. Takes a while (+/- 1 hour) though. After that all updates including KB5001391 installed successfully. Also best to run a disk cleanup afterwards.
So far, everything seems to be fully functional again.
Definitely worth a try!

I have been working on this issue on my husband's computer since April 2021. He had Win 10 20H2 and none of the cumulative updates would install. I tried everything I could think of. I even called a local repair shop. The tech got on remotely and said the hard drive was defective. I know enough to recognize a sales job when I hear one (Fortunately, there was no charge for the "diagnostics"). Then I saw your post. I ran the upgrade tool to which you refer. It took several hours but HOORAY his computer is now on version 21H1 and is up-to-date. Thank you so very much. You have preserved my sanity. 🙂 - I have the same pain as Jauhar. Had tried everything recommended in various forums. I did try running the update tool and when clicked Update Now it downloaded the 9252.exe which I double clicked. I got the message "Thank you for updating to the latest version of Windows 10". The only other option I had is to click Exit. I am using the latest Windows 10 Pro Build 19042 already. The update which installed successfully was KB4023057.
It has nothing to do with old hardware. The problem I am having is on my Skylake Core I3 PC with 24GB ram. I managed to update KB5021330 on my nearly 10 years old AMD Phenom II PC with only 8Gb of ram running Windows Home build 19042. I solved this issue by reinstalling Windows 10 using the media creation tool https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

Great news! But I ask if you downloaded only the update for the system to the latest version from this site before?
Using the media installer is a lot of work! Sometimes, downloading only the upgrade directly is sufficient.
