SharePoint Online Set Hold on sharepoint item from backend

Hi, 

Looking for suggestion or solution to set hold on a sharepoint online item. 

I have enabled Holds site feature and also created a hold by name (this is not purview compliance) this is in-place holds feature available in sharepoint online as a standalone feature so you can prevent items from being moved or deleted or suspend the retention policies.

I can go to compliance and select the hold I have created on the sharepoint item, I need to do this from the backend either by api or any c# library from a azure function triggered by a backend job.
