The Document ID is editable for documents inside the Document Set

I have created a Document Set Content Type and associate it with a Document Library, also enabled the Document ID feature on my SharePoint Teams site. I noticed that the Document ID is read-only at the Document Set level, but it is editable in documents inside the Document Set. I checked another library where a Document Set is not used, and there, the Document ID is not editable.

  • I have added the same Document Set Content Type to another library, where the Document ID is working as expected. It is read-only at both the Document Set and Document Content Type levels. However, in this library also, I am unable to see the Document ID value in the Library Settings, but I can add in library view.

To resolve this issue, I created another library and associated the Document Set Content Type. Now, the Document ID is working fine in the new library. I am not sure why that Content Type was not functioning correctly in that particular library :-(

Enable the Enforce Unique Document ID Policy in the SharePoint document library settings, then the Library Settings > Document ID Settings > check Prevent manual ID modifications.

JacobBailey Thank you for your response. Could you please provide more details? I am unable to find the Document ID setting at the library level. Where and how can I define the Enforce Unique Document ID policy?"
